What about his set pieces, something he was supposed to be good at? They've been poor so far.

    Yep.

He may well come better, he is ok technically. Maybe too deep for what he could offer but I'm not convinced so far. His tidy 6 yard passes from side to side haven't won me over.

I agree, i know a lot are calling for a return to 4-4-2 to utilise scannell and a non existent left winger but i'm not sure Palmer fits into a midfield 2. Looks to be a player that might fit between a midfield 2 and the strikers. Could be another Billy Knott scenario.

I've not made either of the first two games so my opinion doesn't hold much weight at the minute but maybe the formation and lack of wider options means there simply aren't the passes available which is forcing him to player the shorter and safer pass?

I watched yesterday's game on my phone and whilst it wad difficult to pick out individual players the sheer narrowness of our play stood out a country mile.

Everytime Grimsby won the ball back they had multiple options and generally had an easy overlap. This is something we desperately need top quickly address.

And he scored a cracking winner yesterday. I would take Law and Morris back at this level any day

It’s quite simple it’s nothing to do with formations it’s players like Anderson Gibson and Doyle shouldn’t be starters in our midfield

I think Law scored 10 last season. Very respectable tally for a midfielder.

Henley and Mellor were clueless going forward as zero options. Nobody to pass to, overlap with, they just stopped and played the ball back inside. Loads of space too.

Donaldson and Vaughan could have offered more out wide. Especially after the 10th time it happened.

I'd have him back in a heartbeat. Add a midfielder who can tackle, and a left winger, and we'd be in business. 3 like that is what we need.

Difficult to find ambition with this set up.Makes me wonder what GB's next move will be,I think it is critical to our progress that he shows inspired judgement...because at present, things are looking rather muddled.

I think that now the transfer window for PL and Championship has closed and those teams have their numbers in place, then there may well be some movement in the loan market and wouldn't be at all surprised to see GB bring one and hopefully a couple in.

He does keep reiterating that he's ONLY brought in 10 so far so fingers crossed there will be more to come.

Me too. I never understood the stick that Law got. Always managed to retain possession in tight spots, frequently carried the ball upfield, almost never gave the ball away or got caught in possession, kept the ball moving quickly. I know he could be a bit crab-like but that's because he was a right footer being asked to play wide left. On the few occasions he was allowed to play in his natural CM position he was outstanding.
We certainly do need reinforcements in midfield. I like Gibson, he can pick a pass and beat a man, but needs an experienced midfield enforcer inside him.

Our lack of any pace out wide means we aren't stretching teams, so they can tuck in and make it almost impossible to play forward through the middle. Hence the huge number of square and backwards passes we are seeing at the moment. We're so predictable and therefore easy to defend against.
We looked twice the threat yesterday once we had Scannell and Gibson both out wide.

I would like to see Scannell behind V&D and going out whenever to whichever wing he choses.
Seems live we are a car with a dodgy 3rd gear at the mo

SLOW right down ! Although you MAY be good in your current position, could YOU do better at BCAFC?
There are strong and weak links in any industry, but if you are outside, then how and who are we to judge?

YES, I played football (NO !! I'm not Edin ;) ) But I am a better Mechanical Engineer, so I know my place.
What I'm asking is ... WHAT makes Thompson better than Dreary ?
With little, or no knowledge, I'm jus' askin' like ? ;)

From limited snippets and reviews .......... I agree.
He is NOT the ball player we thought we had, and a 'set piece specialist' he aint.
Palmer is a supporting MF, not a leading one ........... Which we desperately need.

I remember when Law was getting serious flack from the fans, and it must have affected his confidence, but like the professional he is, he never let it show. My other half has always been a big fan of Law, he says, great professional, hardly ever gives the ball away, keeps possession going, recycles the ball. He turned round and shouted at those having a go, ‘Be careful what you wish for’ and here we are wishing he was still with us.

FINE .... BUT !! This should have been sorted weeks ago.
OK - So only two weeks in, and NO defeats ....... BUT a soft underbelly remains.
At least two quality new additions to our MF, or say goodbye to promotion, right now.
As I stated in the 'prediction' thread ........ City will finish in about 10th place !
