I know it doesn't really fit with this subject but I am reminded of Rodney Marsh speaking at some dinner. Recalled the exchange between him and a now retired referee. Paraphrasing now but something like "Oi Ref, If I said you're a c**t you'd send me off, right?" "Yes Rodney" "But if if I thought you were a *@?$ you couldn't do anything about it could you?" "No Rodney", "well in that case, I think you're a c**t".

Delete or ban as appropriate given the sensitivity of the OP subject matter.

Luckily plenty of stuff to discuss, none of which involve burkhas, sharia or freedom of speech ;-)

Although under the Rahic regime I think there were a fair few freedom of speech issues, but it is all history now. Onward and upward. The start of Santa progressivism part 3, or is is part 4?

 

There's a lot of prejudiced, racist people around. They tell racist jokes and use racist language when in the right company. They share social media posts like the ones discussed here and they reply with vitriol every time Naz Shah or Diane Abbot tweet something. There's some reading this right now; I know because I recognise you from here and twitter.

You try calling these people out as racists though and see how they react! No I'm not they fume! Prejudices are natural human traits, we're a tribal bunch and that's how we thrived.

I could sneak off to the pub and tell my wife I'm walking the dog, and nobody would have a clue - and I could ignore all my boring old mates and have a peaceful pint on my own. Hmmmm. I am liking the thought of that. Hang on, how do you drink pints in a burkha :-(

The Burka is banned in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France and Netherlands.

I would consider these nations liberal and progressive. I don't think what Mr Hird said can be considered offensive when some of our allies and European neighbours have banned it.

The issue of grooming is not solely about muslim grooming gangs, there were lots of white grooming gangs to. But in Keighley the grooming went unchallenged because of fear of inciting claims of institutional racism. This is a well documented fact.

You are right in the sense its not an issue of being muslim. Muslim grooming gangs dont exist, but pakistani male grooming gangs do. People say 'muslim' to prevent themselves from sounding racist. Obviously its not all pakistani males but the fact that the victims were chosen because of their race being white means it is not incorrect to look at the ways they identify themselves (i.e. being the opposite of white and female) and call them out on it.

We should not conflate grooming with the issue of the burka however. The burka issue is simple, the guy posted messages that vilified muslims, he wasnt constructive or balanced he was actually pretty blatant and uncouth. This isnt the PR image Bradford City want and so he was asked to leave. Quite rightly as well, the burka may be disagreeable but it is not harming anyone and so banning it would be as much oppressive as we think wearing it is.
