Not sure I said I rated any of them? However, if Bowyer has offered them a deal because he thinks they can do a job, why can’t other clubs think they can be squad fillers for them too?

You may be right that clubs wouldn’t be interested in the 3 players we have offered contracts to. But then, why have they not yet signed? Football is weird when you look at it. Until they sign, I wouldn’t rule out anything

Haha, there are worse places to start when trying to create a squad capable of achieving promotion than hanging hats on players who have achieved promotion.

Frankly, while I had no interest in McCartan coming back and making no difference to our season this year, he's about the right level for a squad player next year.

 

Sorry mate but I can’t agree with that. You can’t tell me a XI made up of similar quality to Brunker would get us a 12pt start.

Of course the players need to follow instructions and play for the greater good of the team. But isn’t that the minimum we should expect? Surely we need a modicum of talent too?

 

Give your head a shake. I’d take Doyle over Cullen any day of the week.

Maybe we are looking at Cullen to be a cheap replacement for Doyle who is apparently is on a big weekly wedge and we are trying to move on

Why would you compete with another team for a 'squad filler'?

At this level, there's plenty of 'squad fillers' available without having to try to wrestle them from their clubs.

 

I think we should keep Doyle, but if he has to go budget-wise, we need to invest in better than Cullen.

No issue with Cullen coming in as a squad player, but not a 40-game a season starter.

 

Kai Brunker is a cheap replacement for Doyle.... but he’s still not fit to lace his boots...!

Look at last season - some people thought Eoin Doyle was a hard-working centre forward, that's how abysmal our team was in terms of it's overall mentality.

Under-talented sides overachieve every year if they have a workhorse mentality.

Some consider it 'stone age' or 'archaic' to rely on such attributes because we've supposedly reached an enlightened 'pure' footballing age - but that's baba, as we all know.

 

I should have made it clearer, Wayne ............ Take a team of very average players......
Install a game plan which suits them, and they all work together and for each other.
A team of Bruenkers would possibly be in Nat Lge North.

And yes, we should expect a minimum standard and effort - All of which was missing, this season.

 

Why would there be any wrestling? They’re all out of contract. I can’t see City offering big wages, so they could be picked up relatively cheaply if other clubs rate them enough to offer a deal

 

I just think teams will look at the actual released list and go from there - cheapest and best value way to do business, surely?
