Wimbledon had relegation nailed on a couple of weeks ago. Now they have a chance (slim maybe) of survival. I guess they haven't given up?

 

I think before Saturday we would have settled for three points from these two games.
But now because how poor we have been over the rest of the season we have to get wins starting at Oxford

Hopkin resigned a while ago and our new manager is Gary Bowyer.

I certainly would have. Oxford is a huge game. Win and we might get a bit of momentum. Lose and Peterborough will just be an odd blip in an awful season.

 

What you really mean is you are relieved that the ref didn't give a penalty for blatent shirt pulling (in second half) or booked more of your players play acting or moaning. Your number 19 was a complete tosspot all game moaning and fouling.

 

If points were given for being the most pedestrian we would be top of the league...

The bare minimum I would have expected was to haul off the pedestrian Anderson and go for it with an attack-minded player. Possibly that Payne lad who's scored a few for us this season?

You were a more physical side and certainly more snide and street wise. I don’t mean it as a dig. It’s a crucial ingredient at this level and the fact that we lack it is one of the reasons we’re down there.

 

Virtually all season once we’ve conceded one, we’ve gone onto concede another quickly after. Apart from the 3-5 mins after the goal we at least attempted to keep the ball off them and just settle down. Previous games would have seen us start hoofing it forwards in a panic, to see our already weak defence straight back under the cosh. By keeping the ball relieved some momentum Luton had and prevented another potential goal IMO.

I don’t go to every game but surely you could see an improvement versus previous weeks when conceding, second half especially, despite what the game stats say?

 

We don't need improvement. We need 3 points.

I mostly agree, however Butterfield has been much more effective in his past two games further forward than Payne had been over the 4 weeks previous to that. Finding a way of playing both together would be the objective for me and potentially, we could be really dangerous but essential there is a balance.

I said a week ago, Payne was rested earlier in the season (eg. Didn’t start Luton away) and came back all guns blazing. Maybe he needed a rest?

Perhaps LOB needs a rest as @Fordy117 says? Wouldn’t be surprised to see that at Oxford with the return to Wright potentially? That said, he and Akpan were pretty dire together earlier in the season so much needed improvement needed there if this was to be the choice.

For what it’s worth, thought Akpan had a good game last night also.

 

I agree, but let’s be realistic here, did you really envisage getting anything out of last night? I’m not for defeatist attitudes but also like to be realistic. The fact we played with some sort of desire and improvement was at least some encouragement to take into Saturday. Walking off having been smashed and the negativity that would naturally come with that, would fill me with dred ahead of Saturday.

 

We've been a pedestrian side for nearly two years. A slow demise to league Two since January 2018.
