We've got what we've got. We clearly had some serious financial constraints which meant we could commit to low cost, short term deals - Payne aside.

Not adding a solid centre back and quality centre forward could very well lead to our relegation.

That said, we are in a stronger position in terms of overall squad than we have been at any point of the season. Clarke is a better option than Bruenker, Patrick and I'd argue could even be better than Miller or Doyle in some games.
If he's fit, Butterfield should be the best midfielder at the club.
Woods is an upgrade on Chicksen.
And we have Scannell to come back in.
It might sound harsh, but I struggle with the idea that POC on loan was the best we could find to strengthen a shockingly bad central defence.

 

I get the feeling Rahic would have been a damn sight more careful had he have been playing with his own money rather than the federal bank of Rupp. The after effects of his sheer lunacy have caused long term damage which will take years to put right. Even if we stay up the knock on effect for next season will hit us hard.

 

Yes I know all that, but what are you going to do between now and the end of the season?

 

Balanced and sums it up for me! The one thing that I do find positive about Clarke is that he’s bright enough and crafty enough to link well with Payne and Ball - if fit!

 

The last time we had a chairman that showed ambition nearly lost us our club and put us in the khazi for 10 years.

It'd be interesting to a see a list of who's still contracted for next season. We'll have some big, big contracts. And several of those will be players we don't want - even if we go down.

 

Oh good, like the rest of us then. We would all like more it is the nature of football fans. We are Bantams we don’t give up or throw our toys out of the pram just because we can’t have we want. We roll our sleeves up and get stuck in. I do not lack ambition for our club far from it, I was hoping for much better when Rupp and Rahic bought the club, but that hasn’t happened. It does look like Rupp is being pragmatic with his financial support, so may well want out, but once again that is something else that is once again out of our control. So now the window is shut we now have to go on and get the points needed.
We have strengthened at full back with Wood
We now have loads of options in midfield and look decent in that area. And up front whilst we could have done with a target man type player we are scoring goals and with Doyle Miller Ball Payne and now Clarke we have choices.
What worries me is central defence I am surprised McGowan was allowed to leave without a replacement in fact I would have liked two more there. We need to hope we avoid injuries in those positions

Our bench on New Years Day was: Wilson, Wood, Isherwood, Devine, Goldthorp, Maltby & Brunker.

The bench for tomorrow's match could look something like: Wilson, Chicksen, Wood, Devine, Anderson, Clarke, Miller.

I think that shows that we are in better shape.

 

Spot on, probably five years, assuming we have backing, if not or no other buyer of Stefan decides to go we are done in my view. But on the bright side I see Stefan as a man with some honour so ...

 

5 years! Is it really that bad a situation?

Think fans could do with knowing the whole truth now if I am honest.

Not saying it has to come from you mate but I feel it's important the truth of our situation is told and season ticket prices need increasing.

 

If it is 5 years, then fans do need to know the extent of the mismanagement. Maybe not now, but certainly at the end of the season and hopefully Rupp’s position.

 

5 years? @Bronco will be pushing 80. The guy deserves better and sooner, while he's still got all his chairs at home.

 

Without a rich benefactor that the reality of lower league football mate. The only other options are cup runs or player sales and both of those have a huge element of luck about them, cutting your cloth accordingly, very difficult in a sport where everyone wants to be successful, or running at a debt that is then restructured over a long term period. I’m guessing the summer will see a clear out and then a budget adhered to running in line with reducing the effects of the defecit over the long term. This will hit Hopkins budget as season ticket sales are down and we have no real saleable player assets.

 

Marginally better shape, we didn't buy the players we all know we needed.
