I think that’s an over simplification.

True, the old regime also had us running at a forecast loss, but I see key differences.

Firstly, the risk was contained. We knew resources were limited so we focused all we had on the first team instead of nonsensical ‘development squads’ which only inflate running costs that we can’t sustain. Contracts weren’t over exposed - we didn’t enter into multiple, long term and high salary contracts. The flip side of that risk is that we lost players like Wells for less than their value because he wasn’t tied down to a long contract - but the overall risk to the club was lessened.

Crucially - we recruited well and assembled a team that DID go on cup runs and generate more revenue. There’s luck involved but it doesn’t happen by accident.

So we may have operated with a yearly forecast loss, but rarely did that loss ever come to bear - and we saw year on year progress once Parkinson came in. It took a while to stabilise the club but once we had, we had upward momentum and a well organised, well run club. To not leverage that state, was neglectful of our new owners.

I’ve long since argued that what we needed was an element of financial risk to fund investment in a better quality of player, and initially at least that could only come from a wealthier owner. Manageable debt is different from unmanageable debt. Debt accrued through transfer fees on quality players is different from paying the likes of Wright 4 grand a week!

The current approach is much different - we’ve massively inflated the squad and recruited extremely poorly. We’ve ramped up cost and at the same time taken the club backward at an alarming rate.

Under the old regime we had a calculated financial risk, mitigated by placing trust in proven professionals that showed themselves well capable of managing that risk.

Under this regime, we created our largest budget for 15 years and entrusted it to a luncatic owner and 32 year novice manager who never applied for the job. Completely reckless.

    Rahic isn’t solely to blame:

Rupp allowed him to run amok - though he’s redeeming credit by stepping in and now providing his own funds to start repairing the damage. He could easily write off his investment, as spending enough to repair the damage and protect his investment will probably cost more than what he’d lose by leaving things as-is.

Abbott recruited poorly and enabled Rahic when he undoubtedly knew what he was up to.

And various folks close to the club could have briefed Simon Parker to allow the T&A to shine a light on Rahic earlier.

But Rahic was the custodian of it all. He takes by far and away the biggest chunk of blame.

I don’t know anywhere near as much as Roger Owen, obviously - but I’ve heard bits from people who’ve experienced Rahic first hand and the stories are horrific. That he was ever in charge of this club still gives me a shudder.

Is the loan signing of striker Sam Surridge been held up by the fact Ball is still negotiating an exit by mutual consent deal with his parent club Rotherham.

Some say it's being held up by Bournemouth who've been impressed with him since he's come back from Oldham and Howe is weighing up what he should do with him next.

Out dated is that. The gist is right, but I think it’s less likely to happen now.

    Fingers crossed though...

I really hope I’m wrong but my opinion is we’ve spunked all the wages on Payne and yet again pissed about and made all the right noises in the transfer market, but will sign no marks. Let’s be honest the lad from Peterborough was promising a few years ago isn’t rated by them couldn’t gat a game at Donny. The guy from Preston has played an hours worth of first team action this season! Doesn’t really inspire me cheap players that cost nothing as they have a point to prove.
You could argue that we need 11 more defenders looking at that shite performance at the weekend but we are crying out for a forward as is everyone else in our position. I just get the impression that we have been pissing around to agree terms with Ball and missed out on Surridge ,and now in a vain attempt to boost numbers are signing had beens that nobody rates or really wants. If they did they would have already been snapped up.
Wise up guys the Christmas upturn is over and looking at the current squad we’ve got a real fight on our hands which I don’t think we’ll get out of.

It's obvious we have put all are eggs in one basket, hence the need to ship out to free up funds.
