It would have been interesting to have been a fly on the wall when Dave Hopkin accepted the job.
I wonder what he was promised bearing in mine it was Edin who he would have been negotiating with, would it be he had to sort out who would benift his style of football going forward and off load those Hopkin thought would be surplus, or was he told there would be transfer funds made avialble even if said players could not be move on/out.
I think Hopkin has/will turn our fortunes around with the players fit and without any input from the likes of Wright, Jones, Riley, Gibson, Brunker, Patrick ETC, so for me if we could guarentee the likes of Payne, O'Brien, Miller staying I'd be happy with 2/3 short term contracted players being here until the end of the season, then we review the situation at the end of the present season.
This would allow Rupp to take onboard just what it costs to run a football club that is going for a promotion push.

 

Thats about 13 k-15 k saved there Bronco if they all go. I know we will have to pay the contract up but the weekly outgoing would diminish.

Dude the only positivity was the fact the dogkissers gave him a three year deal before he left to join us.They rate him very highly.

 

Anything we have to pay up still has to paid out of this seasons salary cap though, so not exactly freeing much up.

You could tell straight away he had something about him which wasn’t hard when he was replacing a terrible Josh Wright and an immobile Hope Akpan. To be fair to Akpan he has improved over the last few games. I remember O’Brien coming on at Blackpool, i think it was for Wright, and thinking this is what we were missing. All the good young players we have stand out, amd guess what? They are on loan. The young players we signed as our own look nowhere near that class, its why they were let go in the first place.

I doubt very much you were alone, maybe fans didnt make their opinions known but I'd suggest many would be thinking a kid with limited experiance, why would we want to be developing other clubs kids when we have our own.
Just goes to show if your good enough your old enough.

Its not really a conundrum - it just demonstrates that if you want to invest in youth with real re-sale potential, it costs money. You have to do it properly. You can't do it on the cheap and sell for big money on a consistent bases - or everyone would be doing it.

In the case of LOB, I've no idea whether he's in Huddersfield's plans - i'd imagine so - but he's the sort of player where we could look to bring him in permanently and offer a buy-back clause, but it'd cost well into 6 figures. Maybe more.

The one we've got that I think has a chance of going on to be a decent player is Wood. But he's not getting games and its far from nailed on. LOB will play the majority of his career in the Premiership.

 

LOB is a fine player but I think talk of him been good enough for the Premier League is premature. He isn't anywhere near England U20s or U21s and he is only proven at League One level. Folk were crowing the same way about Callum Guy last season and he has just signed permanent for Blackpool.

Second to that, anyone remember Reece Burke? Future England CB was cited. Struggling at Championship level. Josh Cullen STILL in League One and another who struggled in the Championship.

 

Not saying we couldn’t improve but he really should be getting more games. Baffles me that he’s not top of the pecking order out of our current choice of left backs!

Yep, fair points. Just my opinion, but I think he'll be a PL player within 2-3 years.
