That's a good way to encourage folk... :joy:

In the course of only one page you've gone from cheerleading an initiative to aggravating a load of those who might help!

think we would struggle to get 8,000 in Halifax at £300. We would still be paying rent, but would have less income from all other streams. No non match day income. Would need to rent office space, shop space etc. No ground sponsorship, reduced advertising income.

Doesn’t sound like a great plan

Well past experiences tell me that the threat of walking away from a deal often produces a good success rate of getting the deal you want.
You just have to have the bollox to follow through in the event your bluff is called.

Well I’d expect that my 1/5000th share would be sellable at a future time if needed.
The motive for doing it would be purely be to assist the club in moving forwards and to get rid of the ongoing rental noose.

not sure your 1/5000th would be worth anything if it wasn’t generating an income

problem being they have already covered their original investment and have probably written off the value in their accounts so any value realised from a sale of the vacant lot is profit

This aint poker where your opponent doesn't know what cards you have. Gordon Gibb knows what options Bradford have at their disposal. Now, for the sake of this discussion, if you can give me one viable alternative that is actually available to Rupp and Sparks then let's hear it. And I mean viable, because if you are gonna go to the negotiating table and say your options are the Shay or Gigg Lane you are gonna be laughed out the building.

Probably true, the slight difference (I hope) is that when it comes to renegotiation of the lease, we might be able to bring the rent down a bit, as there is no realistic alternative use for the ground.

I'm guessing of course, but the pension fund will have received around £12 million (ish) over the course of the agreement. Invested well, that is probably now somewhere north of £20 million.

Maybe a lump sum into the fund in a few years time, rather than a probable (but not guaranteed) future income stream could be acceptable to the scheme trustees.

The Ricoh as it was called was owned by a company owned 50/50 by a local charity and the council. The deal was that the football club didn’t get the food and drink revenues and so Cov wanted to buy it and tried all manner of tactics, including not paying the rent to get it off the owners. In the end the stadium owners put Cov in administration to get their money, Cov sloped off to Sixfields and ground was sold to Wasps. I think the owners of Coventry City, Sisu, had plans to redevelop some of the land around the arena which was a subplot.

Part of the deal to get Cov City back to the Ricoh involved them discontinuing a court case against Wasps and the council for selling the ground to Wasps too cheaply, it turned out Cov City allegedly hadn’t stopped the legal action and so they went to Blues for two seasons when the rugby club didn’t want them there.

Even though they get half decent crowds Wasps are hardly flush with money and it suits them to have the football club back at the Ricoh so they struck a deal to return. I don’t think Wasps need the Sky Blues, but it helps them, they have spent a lot building a new training ground. Note to Fordy, it cost about £4m for the training ground.

Amazingly most Coventry fans have seen Sisu as the villains of the piece. They’re adamant they’re going to build a stadium near Warwick Uni, although they said the same about a former Massey Ferguson site and the speedway stadium.

Well that depends if what you are buying will appreciate in value over time.

BS, if it hadn't been for Gordon Gibb buying Valley Parade we might not have had a club never mind a ground to play in, maybe you missed his statement with regards him purchasing the stadium when he took to the field to tell us fans we would always have a stadium to play in, maybe you didn't support Bradford City back then ?.

Just have a read of this https://bantamtalk.com/index.php?threads/putting-our-money-where-our-mouth-is.5509/page-6#post-555959 and take a deep breath, were going nowhere until this contract runs out then we have a decision to make, purchase some land and build a new stadium (never in a month of Sundays), go on bended knee to one of our neighbours and ask if we can share (a bit like we do at Woodhouse Grove) we might get lucky but what would they want as rent, will they want rent plus revenue from food & drink at the stadium on match days (none starter) or go back to Gibb/Pension fund and try and negotiate a new deal favouring the club, I would think the terms on any new contract will have to give the pension fund as good or better than the present deal.

As I've posted in reply to fordy have the conditions with regards the future rent to be as good a return or better than the present deal with regards the pension fund, maybe @Dennis@Dennis or @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler could answer that.

We are a league 2 club and could play at any stadium with at least 1000 seats. Of course that’s extreme but still ‘viable’ if it meant being able to tell Gibb to shove his rent where the sun don’t shine. We have no divine obligation to accommodate 15000 season ticket holders. Harrogate are more than just surviving in their ‘non league’ standard stadium.
Like I say though, if the rent we pay is manageable then let’s stop bitching about it but I want to see us operating at the top end of the league 2 playing budgets without hearing the annual excuses that our overheads prevent this.

We agree on that particular part, once again it goes back to Rahic & Ruin who when they bought the club should have done due diligence and done the calculations with regards the cost of our rent going forward.
Your comments with regards reducing our home attendances are rather silly, reducing our home base fans would also have a knock on effect to our very good away support, but you don't seem to care, I'm alright Jack seems to be your answer.

not sure how it would do that because as you have said it isn’t worth anything except as a football ground and if the club aren’t paying anything then the land isn’t worth anything either

Well spending an extended period in league 2 will do more harm to our home attendances and in the horrific event of us losing our league status, would we still be at VP paying silly rent or would you then be open to playing elsewhere

Why does any form of property / land increase in value?

If we are planning to walk away at the end we need to be starting planning now. Not sure how long it would all take but I’d think more than a few years. Find land, buy land, put plans together, go through planning and then build it
