For once i will agree with you, i really dont think we should give a stuff about Doyle, fox in the box in l1 and l2 but an almighty flop for bcfc. It is not like we have lost Aguero but you would think so.

Next you'll be telling us that Greaves, Law, Clarke, Lineker, Defoe and Cottee were all luxury penalty box players. All scored shedloads of goals for fun, almost all in the penalty area, and many in the six yard box.

None of them played much part in the build up play. That wasn't their job. Their job was to put away chances created by others, by being sharper than the last defender. This is what Doyle does. He has the priceless gift that most clubs give their eye teeth for - being in the right place at the right time to stick it in the net. He doesn't need to 'adapt' because he's the one with the scarce, in-demand skillset. The fact that we have been utterly incapable of utilising those skills in any way, shape or form says much more about us than it it does about Doyle.

 

You can say this about most lower league strikers. Donaldson has hit 20+ goals twice in his career, Doyle twice, Agard twice and Vaughan once. Using your logic they must all be rubbish and yet you’ll struggle to find 4 better strikers in this division.

I get what you’re saying, I guess it just comes down to how much ambition we have. Do we recruit one or 2 creative players to get the best out of a front 2 with 35 goals between them or do we recruit a journeyman who makes an infective tactic slightly more effective? It looks like we’ve opted for the latter and it reflects poorly on our manager. I still maintain that if we start creating chances, which is what we’ll need to do to get promoted, then we are significantly worse off for it. Playing 2 non goal scoring target-men because it’s the best of 2 evils is settling for failure imo. It might make the hoof more effective, but hoof is not the answer.

 

Most city fans aren't to fussed about Doyle going but we are on the style of football we are playing inwhich our forwards get little help.

Wanting to be here as opposed to not wanting to be here makes a huge difference. The lad is certainly experienced and a physical presence. No problem with this beefing up of our strike force providing we are going to sign a fox in the box to play off him.

It's a downgrade because while we won't create chances for Novak either, Doyle is a better goalscorer.

I genuinely think that only at Bradford City could you have a situation whereby:

a) We loan a player out, contributing half of his wages and then see him become Europe's most prolific striker by January
b) We recall him and he spends 4 games scoring a grand total of zero, barely getting a single decent chance
c) We then sell him, and some fans aren't arsed because 'he's a flop'.

Some fans will never, ever look at the way we run, manage and coach the football club as being fundamentally at the heart of why we're sh*t.

 

We’ve had grafters like Hanson who were will to come deep for balls, take a pounding off centre halves , and still score goals.

Doyle was just a bad move and the wrong player, it really is time to move on now and get behind the team.

Didn't we have a debate about said player where I was saying we shouldn't let him go and you was arguing the opposite, why all of a sudden are you mentioning in the above company Jon ?.
Doyle was ordinary in a very poor team last season and in 6 games for City this season he's looked no better, you know it made sense to let him leave, big wage earner with little end product for Bradford City, I fail to see how you can disagree, but I've a feeling you will.
