Automatics, I think the next 3 games will allow him to settle his team and formation to suit the players he now has.

Whatever happens the squad is going to need an overhaul next summer too. If we don't go up then the useless lumps should be sacked and if we do go up then we have maybe 3 players at a push who are good enough for league 1.

    Front two: automatic promotion places.

    Defence: mid table to playoffs.

Midfield: mid table on a good day, lower half of the league on a bad one.

Do think a lot of people are being overdramatic/entitled/toxic about this. Squad last year was beyond terrible and we are unfortunately still have to suffer with it. Do think towards christmas we will have a settled formation and squad.

Like I've posted before, Bowyer got Blackpool into the play offs on 69 points I think it was. A pretty even split between wins draws and losses. Exactly how this season has started.
    I don't think it's just coincidence.
We will either sneak in or just miss out unfortunately.

He possibly has too many players to keep happy and could end up chopping and changing, trying to do so.

If he settles things down then play offs for me, if he tries to be everyones friend, then mid table.

There was definitely a feeling that was what he was trying to do on Saturday by including Paudie.

Should be looking at promotion with our squad and budget. No consolation no excuses, go for it.

Get a settled team l, system and style of play and no reason we can’t start to get a run of wins together.

We are missing a holding midfielder, but one position out of 11 in the 4 division isn’t enough to excuse a poor season.

I've backed us as Champions before a ball was kicked but now I wouldn't even back us for top 7.

I think, as things are at the moment - and unless things drastically improve on the pitch - we will finish around 10th. Just above mid-table.

I initially picked preseason midtable and in light of the lack of balance and ball winners, I'm sticking.

IMO, we have an abundance of playing personnel but lacks the bite to penetrate, control possession with the ability to be intelligent off the ball.

Too many times, already this season, I've been concerned at the inability to control the game and break teams down. This habit of opposition teams ain't gonna change anytime soon, so my question is how do we counteract this, not neutralise?

This leads to the obvious next part. Mr Bowyer. Much has been written, some of which I agree too (though not the sacking bit), other stuff which is way over the top. I worry we lack a real number 2. I worry about behind the scenes, so many injuries already and the ability of a small team to remedy.

And it’s likely only 1 will go down due to Bury. If we end below Oldham something’s wrong, the kids could probably beat them!

In pre season I expected us to contest the automatics.

We are weaker for our transfer dealings in losing Doyle and Scannell but our defence has generally looked solid.

I’ve downgraded my expectations to top seven but questions have to be asked if we fall short of that.

Vaughan and Donaldson are top strikers at this level. Those in behind are much of a muchness but its the same for most in L2 - expect they lack strikers of our ability.

Settling on a system and organising the players is Bowyer’s task now, despite our inability to sign the enforcer we wanted.

Maybe there’s another ‘Jim O’Brien’ type knocking about on the free agents list?

Most teams that get auto-promoted from League 2 survive in League 1. This is because they have players mostly good enough for League 1 and they are well organised. Are our players mostly League 1 standard? I'm not sure we have enough until we see more of new signings. Are they well organised? Not in the middle of the park so far. I don't think we'll be top 3. I think we'll be lucky to get into the play-offs, though this could change if we learn to stop/frustrate other teams before they pressure our centre backs and goalkeeper. The fact that people are still arguing about what formation we actually played in games highlights what the problem is! We have some decent players but they wander up too far and we don't seem able to quickly recover a line of midfielders in front of the back 4 (or 3 when it should be 5!). If we can't deny space to our opponents because we're being gung-ho on the ball and poorly organised off it, we will struggle. How hard is it to get midfield to get back in position quickly? If Bowyer sorts this, I think we have might have good enough players to make the play-offs. If we carry on in such a disorganised manner off the ball, I think we'll be mid-table - and hopefully not lower. I vote 8th to 12th until midfield shows some organisation. That's the same as I voted last time.

    Pre-season I predicted we'd finish 15th.

After seeing a manager that hasn't a clue about what formation suits what players.
I've now done a Rodney Marsh and re-assessed
    20th !
