I agree with you that we gave Burton the freedom of Valley Parade on Tuesday and this was the main cause of our problems.

However I still don't understand how you can be sure the two incumbents are our strongest CB pairing when you haven't had an opportunity to see Killa play as one of them; that guy who won the POTY award a couple of months ago.

 

He should be on the bench just in case anything happens to either during the match

Yes very suprising for most fans, we were up to 7 points clear at one time with the crap he had at his disposal.

 

I'm never a fan of saying a team was "lucky" to win just because the opponents had chances or majority possession or whatever - I wouldn't say we were especially "lucky" against Burton, they were just poor at finishing. As Clough said (I'm paraphrasing) they wasted a performance.

That might just be that Burton aren't good in front of goal; in which case, that story will repeat itself a few times this season, and it won't be "lucky" every time they do. If they play against Sunderland, losing 1 or 2 nil, but have 20 poor efforts on goal, nobody will say Sunderland were lucky.

Having said that, it was still a matter of concern that Burton got into four of five very good positions.

While anyone can say "a better side would have stuck those chances away", it's a moot point and irrelevant to both the game and analysis of the performance. Not every game against better opposition will be as open as that game, because the situation will be different for both teams (home team desperate for a performance and therefore happy to attack, away team looking for third straight win and therefore happy to attack).

For me, Burton looked like they had a useful midfield, but little up front. That suited us, because we are definitely not in a position where we look like scoring more than 1 goal in many games.

 

We haven’t played well for 20 consecutive minutes yet. Four games (360mins) and we’ve yet to show any sign of form. At least under McCall and any manager that has had any success at City, we showed some signs of form. Yes we’ve won games in the past that we haven’t deserved, but we had some signs of form at that time.

That’s my point..!!
