I wonder how 'woke' became a pejorative word, when it literally means 'alert to injustice'?

I guess plenty of people enjoy (and are proud of) having their head in the sand

Whenever I hear the word "woke" I just think "complete arsehole".

Pertussis not the exact definition in the dictionary but imo it's not far off.

So everyone else can get on with being racist, sexist and homophobic, like the good old days, without being picked up for it?

No, just so we can get on with everyday life without the self entitled arseholes that pass as students/jobless/anarchists contributing nothing and causing problems.

Maybe when we elected an openly racist prime minister who believes that Africans are pickaninnies with watermelon smiles and the only pity is that we aren't still occupying their countries?
And the millions of others who still think like that want to go back to the days when they could vocalise those thoughts without having to feel guilty about it.

Which wouldn't have anything to do with the way that we and other European countries carved up their continent, ignoring all traditional tribal boundaries, and exploited their resources for 150 years, would it?

Just another way of writing "I'm uncomfortable that people think my views and ideas are outdated, so I react with anger and bile", to be honest.

They definitely do and usually it's a massive over reaction.

They should take my example and not get all wound up. After all, offence is taken, not given.

Next time you watch adverts on TV, count how many black people are in the ads - loads. This is not a problem of course, but the whole thing is contrived.

Same with Police TV shows - these days there is always a black female senior officer in most police TV shows. You would think that the Police service mainly has black female senior police officers. They don’t. Again, not a problem, but it just feels forced and far from reality.

    That’s wokeism right there.

Isn't this the issue though? People who are "woke" downplay what it actually means. If it simply meant fair and equal then I'm guessing 99.5% of people would say they are "woke", very few people actively want to be unfair and unequal with many discussions around this subject centering around how we define those terms.

To me "woke" becomes the active searching of offence or control based on ideas of injustice. In essence we all know that people can be too right wing and the warning signs that come with that, woke is simply an example of people who become too left wing but in many cases use it for the same objectives.

We are told that blacks make up around 12% of the population but are shown and dominant in 80% of TV adverts As you say not a problem but this ratio can only be by an active policy rather than accidental with nearly all family situations been shown as a mixed race family,

It's actually far less officially although the numbers are 10 years old.

Black people are officially only 3% of the population. If anything in the UK it is Asian people who seem to be severely underrepresented in most mainstream ways as they account for 7% of the population.

    1. 80%. Is that a genuine figure or one that you have just made up from your own subjective impressions?
    2. Adverts are designed to sell things. Advertisers will structure their ads to appeal to their target audience. For decades, TV adverts almost always featured 100% white actors. Now they don't.
Of course there's an active policy - companies want to sell things to the broadest possible consumer audience, so they have now wised up to the the need to feature people of various background, cultures and skin tones, not just white ethnic groups.

Yes, there are now far more black and other minority ethnic actors in TV shows than there used to be. Again, TV programme makers want to maximise views from all sections of our society. Once you recognise that there needs to be a mixture of different ethnicity actors, how do you go about getting the exact balance of ethnicities to a tee? But, yes, there probably is a conscious effort being made to redress the decades of massive underrepresentation and years of open racism like Jim Davidson, Bernard Manning and Love Thy Neighbour.

You say it's, 'not a problem', yet the fact that you and others have registered this as an issue suggests that, actually, you think it is, otherwise why even mention it?

Should always always be the best people for the job totally regardless of colour or sexuality otherwise it's targeted and manufactured...
