It wasn't so much the result that was important on Saturday it was what sort of performance we put in. Going two upfront in the second half gave us a different dimension to our play and allowed Payne space. It also helped push Shrewsbury back in their own half. Brave management for your first game, going two up top when you are one up. He could have easily gone like for like with Doyle replacing Miller but the substitution was inspired. Can't remember the last i could say that about a sub.

It's the kind of approach that made Celtic the UK's first European cup winners. Exciting and will lose us some games but we compare a win, draw and defeat against 3 draws.

There wouldn't be many managers who would have made that call on Saturday. I applaud it, it was positive and forward thinking. He's going to mistakes along the way but he won't get criticism from me if moves like that don't work.

Bryan robson was a great player but ,great players don,t always make great managers ,as we know from his time at city.So saying its the best start for a new manager since him is slightly worrying.

Absolutely bang on Roger, I said the same yesterday. It was a brave decision and not what, as you say anyone would expect. It baffled them, stretched them no end. I think there was a breakout in the last five mins by Seedorf I think and if one looks, like have FIVE against two. They were toothless due to that critical substitution. Pressing their back four left them no option but the long ball which we swept up with ease. Very clever tactics! Hats off !

Is it? Doesn't concern me one iota. Then, now.

It was a good start, but 10-15 games in should give us a real indication, I know that is stating the obvious. Maybe Shrewsbury will have another good season, maybe they will struggle? The acid test will be our home form, we slipped back into poorer home form last season. Playing away is one thing, coping with the undoubted increased pressure that exists at home will be interesting to see how we do. Hopefully we can go some way to getting our decent home form back, saturday will be a tough game hopefully we will do ok.

I hope supporters will give the team time to settle in, I think they will. Those that like to lump ppl into ‘moaners’ McCall-ists’ and ‘happyclappers’ need to develop more critical thinking. Yes I know it is emotional and I like everyone else sometimes get caught up in it, BUT it really is just lazy thinking.

Many have had concerns throughout this year, and in my view justified. However, unlikely to change their thought processes until we see how the team settles down. The one thing I am absolutely sure about is 100% of supporters will be thrilled to start with a win, and despite concerns will want to see OUR team to do well, and ppl who suggest otherwise need to hang their head in shame.

I’m old enough to remember the opening game of 77 when we beat Cambridge United 4-0 at home on a glorious day. We were fantastic that day. That same season we were relegated and Cambridge were promoted. It happens but I’m confident history won’t repeat itself here!

nb. It was the first time I saw a team put one of it’s own players in the wall defending a free kick. Dolan stepped up and put the ball right thru’ him top corner. Highlight of that season over in the first game.

Funnily enough, I mentioned that match to someone, last night, as a reason to be cautious about early results. If I remember the game correctly, the weird moment was Bernie Wright breaking from his own half and outpacing the Cambridge defence, to score; it was a tortoise outpacing the hares moment.

Over a few threads - I'm struggling with this 'difficult start' nonsense.

Many on here have already stated that the time to judge our side is between 6 to 10 games ............. Errrrr - NOT the opening three !
Yes, you can have your cake, but you can't eat it at the same time !!

Games 4 & 5 are against Burton and Wycombe, respectively ...... Both at HOME.

As the fixtures were announced, I stated that I was more than happy, and they were not over challenging. My mind has not changed, since then. ;)
Give me 15 points from the opening 10 games, and I will be pleased, so long as City show signs of continued progress and improvement. My 'personal' predictor shows me City will have amassed 17 points by game 10. That'll do nicely. ;)

It would have been easy though to have no points from the three opening games

That wasn’t with a new manager which was his point. It was Colin Todd’s second season.

His point was the manager winning his first game not the team

I went to the match at Cambridge that season, think it was Boxing Day, and they absolutely battered us

I expect nothing but 31 points from our first 10 games.

I thought we'd established you can't get 31 points from the first 10 games, only 32.
