I am just really glad we got the three points because otherwise we would have had page after page slamming the appointment of Collins even if we had put in a similar performance with a different result

 

Don't speak too soon, we have Barnsley next which would be a tough game without all the daggers being sharpened

 

When the fixtures gave us Shrewsbury away Barnsley home and Southend away there was a real possibility we could have come away with three losses. So there was a measure of relief that we put in a good performance and three points on the opening day

 

By the time Robson arrived we were as good as doomed anyway.

 

Might just pop along to Southend. Used to be a 45 min trip but now much much longer. Ill see if the lad is working or not?

Yes you are right too, probably the hardest start on paper in the division. Runners up, relegated from league above and Powells team who ended last season on a roll? crikey !

 

Yes. A little caution at this stage has got to be sensible, but as @Park bantam rightly says it was not exactly a dream start when the fixture list came out. I'd be happy with a win and a draw from those three first matches, but will of course take 9 points too

 

I think this is exactly the point. Who knows how the season will pan out, but a trip to Shrewsbury isn’t the easiest at any time so we should be chuffed with the result.

However, it’s one game and absolutely no need to get carried away, but please with a good start and performance of the new squad and management.

 

I don't think you can use this Saturday as a real reflection of how the season goes. It's the start of the season and a local derby so you can't use form as a guide.

 

Very true. After ten games or so we will have a better idea. But on paper this first eleven at least looks the best we have had for a long time

 

Sorry Park but that is an absolutely crap comment. No matter how surprised we all were with the appointment, more than 99% of us will give the team time to settle. A new season and most of us are getting behind the team but we still get nutters coming out with comments such as "what will the moaners be thinking now". Grow up and join the rest of us cheering on the team for even though all of our comments may not be as positive as yours, our support is just as passionate. For what it is worth, I expect Barnsley to beat us but that will not dampen my optimism for the season.

Rubbish reporting and research again, know we won the opener at Hartlepool in 2005/2006 0-2 with at least one Windass goal.

 

Done some googling and we also won opening match in 2008 v Notts County, 2-1 Peter Thorne double.

It was the first time a new manager had one his first match since Robson not the first match of the season
