Rhodes seems to conveniently forget that he was half of the management structure that consistently reassured fans that they were 'merely custodians' and that 'they'd only ever sell the club to people with the club's best interests at heart, who could also take the club further than they had'.
Now this is obviously crystal clear with 20/20 hindsight. But was it wise to sell to one person with no interest in football and his partner who thought he was Ferguson/Wenger/Pep/Klopp combined, but had delusions of grandeur and no previous experience of running a professional football club?
I'd wager that was a huge gamble he took with the club's future. In his time at the helm, he's only made 1 appointment, in Parkinson, that has been anything like a success. I don't want to be too harsh, because he obviously cares about the club and he's probably had many a sleepless night trying to keep the club afloat. I think even he'll accept that the club needs new blood and fresh ideas.
From what I understand, JR/ML only ever set the manager a budget and left the footballing side of the business to who's ever in the managerial hot seat. I'd like to see the new CEO formulate a plan with some longevity built in. Rather than just continuously sacking and appointing managers and the squad barely having any continuity from one manager to the next. There's local decent amateur teams with more of an idea of where they want to go and how they hope to get there than City.
That's why I desperately hope the new CEO has some experience and previous success in the role. A internal promotion will stink of an easy and cheap continuation of what we've already seen. The club's crying out for some fresh hope and ambition. For too long, we've been saddled with short term-ism and that'll do. I honestly fear for the club's very future if we don't see some major changes and quickly.
Ultimately, Rupp should be looking to offload the club. He's overseen, in real terms, a devaluation of the club by two whole divisions (approaching promotion from League One when he arrived to approaching the bottom of League Two at the moment). So he can't hope to even break even on the amount he purchased the club for. It's been a disaster since they took control, from trusting Rahic in the first place to relegation and the present situation.Inspector, How, Morley Bantam and 5 others like this. -

Not read the thread, can’t be bothered to I’m losing the will with the club atm and I don’t even blame the players. They aren’t good enough, but I can tell they are trying. It’s not their fault they were signed and put together in such a poor way. All of the 3 options get my vote, when a business is failing look from the top and work your way down. If Morrisons profits fall they don’t change the shelf stackers.

In the real world a CEO would set out his vision for a business, together with “smart” objectives, then ensure his team embraced the plan and were all pulling in the same direction. CEOs tend to be charismatic and have a real gravitas about them, larger than life characters and ideas people.
Now can we get real, A company the size of City shouldn’t need a CEO. City just like most lower league clubs are small fry and top heavy.
The owner should be the MD (or if you want to be poncy the CEO). He should set the vision and the long/ medium term plan then drive this through his team. For what it’s worth and what I know about him I’d have Rhodes as my F.D or CFO all day long. He’s a numbers man and does a pretty good job, but he’s no visionary.
His partnership with ML worked brilliantly. A larger than life character who saw everything in broad strokes working with a detailed completer finisher.
I think it’s pretty unfair therefore to blame Rhodes, he’s a square peg in a round hole,
McCall, it really upsets me to say it as I adore the bloke, isn’t a great manager, he appears to be a good motivator but wants to be everyone’s
Mate. He could change this by surrounding himself with people who are better than him in specialist areas say a nutritionist, specialist coaches including a conditioning and fitness coach.
To me the real blocker is Rupp but as said by others he can’t sell if no one wants to buy.

It has to be Rupp (if there’s a buyer out there) because the other two would probably follow.
Just as he made a statement almost 2 years ago about righting the wrongs, it’s about time we heard from him again about the sh#t show that’s happening at the club right now. We’re regressing alarmingly and he needs to admit this isn’t for him, work hard to find a buyer but maintain current levels of support. Until he publicly puts the club up for sale, we’ll just keep going round the pan until we drop down the pipe....bantamdave41 and Biker like this. -

Sparks fits in with the whole approach of running this club like a McDonald’s franchise so would keep Uncle Rupp sweet.
Really hope it is someone else with a more accomplished cv. but does that sort of person wait around? I think not.Bantamsteve and Fordy117 like this. -
