I know this has probably been thrashed to death on here. But driving home we were trying to come up with a viable candidate for the managers job; someone who could get stuck in straight away and start organising this team of complete "footballing strangers" into a workable unit.

Top of my list would be Mick McCarthy but with my sensible hat on that's not going to happen. Does the person have to have a proven record certainly not if you consider Barton at Fleetwood. Going down the former player route might lead you to likes of Craig Bellamy ? Ah ! but isn't he another Collins?...no ! The two are not comparable because when Bellamy walks into the dressing room (as Clough used to tell his players) he can put his playing achievements on the table. Whereas Collins would struggle to match that. Ok you don't have to have been a player to be a great manager ..Wenger ...Mourino but they were great students of the game. Equally great players haven't made great managers arguably our greatest Bobby Moore and Bobby Charlton come to mind.

So realistically who do you think could come in and start to create order out of the chaos.

It might not be the worst idea for Edin to look to a fellow German ? Hannes Wolfe was linked and Edin will know of others and have contacts. I wouldn't be against that simply because you might expect that "the Edin model' might be workable for a German coach. From what I have seen in German football developing young players and then selling them on for fees happens a lot. Schalke have done this time and again and keep on doing it and indeed Tedesco their current Coach has to be one of the least experienced in the BLiga.

Other than that I go back to say; Paul Heckingbottom proven in this league. A former City player. Taking "a break" it seems?. But why wouldn't he want 12 months work and see where it goes ? He could take it accept "Edins way" then little by little do his own way. Surely if his methods were succeeding would Edin be mad enough to fire him ? Just because he wasn't doing what he wanted. Would Edin seriously unravel it again ?...maybe.

But we need a change and it needs doing very very soon.

Who do you think could come in and drag this off it's arse?

German route is something we should have gone down this summer. No idea why we didn't to be honest. Not sure if a German like Wolf would come in and pick things up after 6 games, most coaches want a full pre season with the team. That's what makes the next months in finding someone new so difficult.

Bloody hell, I thought Collins had been sacked when I read the title!

Anyhow, my choice would be Heckingbottom. Its not going to happen though is it

**My first choice prior to appointing Collins was Grant McCann, I just had a hunch that he would be a good fit here, and was very disappointed we either didnt approach him, or as someone on here suggested earlier, he wasnt interested in applying.
He has got off to a very good start at Donny to make me even more jealous that Donny ended up with him**

Well here goes, all in my opinion of course.

    - Mick McCarthy. - would be a good appointment given our predicament. Would look to organise and get points on the board and would take no shit from players or owners. If Rahic is here, never in a million years would it work and would he come here for peanuts? No. He’s working for sky at minute and is desperate to get back in but cannot see him going lower than championship unless it’s good offer. Not going to come from us.

    - Hannes Wolf. Looks to have a good pedigree and Germans have worked and are working currently in England. Bloke at Barnsley and Wagner at Huddersfield. But I’m worried he would be coming at the wrong time. Maybe if we were in championship with an established squad the build with youth could work but we are light years from that and when someone comes in we will need points and fast. Might take him a couple of months to get to grips with it. Bit different developing players at state of the art academies in Germany and then he turns up at apperley bridge. No from me.

Heckingbottom. - don’t get it with him if I’m honest. Did ok to get Barnsley promoted and then somehow got the Leeds job where he was awful and his football was torrid. Biesla making a smilies squad look like Barcelona. He’s an ok coach but we need instant results to stop us getting dragged in and would he get them? Put him in the maybe category.

Bellamy - I like the way he talks about the game and he is working with Cardiff youth teams and seems like he wants a job. Can work as you say working with Barton and plenty of young coaches with ideas coming into game. A fiery character and would get a performance from his players I don’t doubt. If he is still like that however how would he get on with Rahic? He’s a maybe

    Ones that I think may be worth considering;

Michael Flynn. - ex city and done a brilliant job with Newport who were relegation cannon fodder each season before he went there. Had a great start to season and in top 3 this year. Done well in Cup competetitions and would be able to work with what he’s got and you would hope can get results with this limited squad.

Cowley - brought Lincoln out of non league and gone from strength to strength. Question marks over his style but parky was dull at times but it got results. They have a brilliant spirit at the club and shown in previous cup runs and are sat top of the league. Why leave that to come here with Rahic and limited control? Plus will we pay compo for anyone? Both him and his brother signed contracts until 2022.

But we struggle with Rahic. Unless he changes?

We need a change of chairman first, before any coach/manager will make a difference.

    What about Brian McDermott?

The conundrum is working with Edin. That’s the issue facing any new coach/manager.

The most important signing and next signing should be a director of football, then relieve Abbott of his duties. The club needs direction with football matters.

If Collins got sacked Drury would step up with whoever is in charge of the under 8’s as his assistant

What about Gary Bowyer? Worked under dreadful owners at Blackpool and managed to achieve promotion and a mid table finish.

Bowyer would be a good shout but he's left Blackpool because he'd had enough of working with the Oystons. I honestly can't think of anyone daft enough to work with Rahic.
