You bring people in on trail because you aren’t sure about them though. The point is you get to see them first hand to check them out both on a technical and often more importantly mental front. If he was absolutely sure about them he wouldn’t need them to come on trail.

And even if he was sure about them it doesn’t mean it’s not a compromise. It’s a comprise between getting bodies in now from a small selection of players or having a wider pool of choices. When options are limited you are always going to have to compromise more.

It’s like moving house. If you are moving because you have no choice (for example a change in job making you have to move town) then you have to select the best option available so have to comprimise. If you move from choice you can pick the house that meets your requirments perfectly

January is notoriously a sellers market not sure your comment is true.

Yes David Hopkin is suggesting the players he's talking to are asking more money than maybe we are prepared to pay, but if he's brought them in to train with our squad I'd hope he's brought players in that he feels are the priority positions that need addressing quickly,
They might be more than the club wants to pay, then it goes back to my original comment, dropping to league two will be an expensive exercise plus we can be 8 to 12 more games down the road before these players have any chance of changing our present situation.

It's not so much a sellers market on the wage front. If a player is happy to move their wage demands aren’t really going to change, infact as transfer fees are often higher in Jan the options a player has are lower so you don’t have competing offers driving wages up. Even if a league has FFP that’s based on profits rather than wages transfer fees are much easier for a club to handle due to the way they are dealt with in the accounts than wages often are. And as League 1's rules would be fine with a club making a 100mill loss as long as wages are below 60% it’s the wages that are the concern

I've watched and been involved with football many years and the above is just one reason why managers bring players in on trial.
As in our case Hopkin will be wanting someone in ASAP he may have aready identifide the players he's brought in to train so he is well aware of what they are capable of, the thing he is not sure of is their fitness level.
I would think the lad Paul Caddis was asked by Hopkin rather than just turning up, he knows what he has done in the past and what experiance he can offer us, and if fit then he will use his managerual experiance to make a decision if what he's asking will be benificial to Bradford City.

I've thought about your thread title for much of the day - I'd like to try and address it - with an analogy (a true one !), if I may ?

I posted on C&B last season about my sewerage issues, within my Flat ?
I see similar with BCAFC, right now.

"Where now ?" You ask. Here's a clue ......... And within it, an answer ...........

Last March my Washer 'backed up', on draining and spinning. I put this down to the external pipe freezing up. However, it did so yet again about six weeks later (no frost - about 6 degrees). I called the plumber, and after two hours, we agreed we should call 7 Trent Water. 7 Trent cut through the vertical soil vent pipe (about 1m up), whilst loading a camera via the inspection point about 2m adjacent to the building. Jet washing via the soil pipe cleared the blockage.

Now here comes the 'good' bit ........ Once cleared, the camera was able to travel in either one of two pipes ! One was at 45 degrees from my Landlords Beauty Salon, and the other from my Flat soil pipe .......... Both being 6" diameter - Yet reduced to 4" at a 'Y' junction (WTF ?), just under the base of my stair case, so fully enclosed !!

The system was fully cleared, but any repair must be viewed as temporary ........... Cos Just like City - Without major investment, and a fair overhaul ......... the Schitt will not disappear for ever, and will regularly come back.

This is what Cowboys (Owners), poor Contractors (Coaching staff) and cost cutting (wrong components / players) delivers.

Until my Landlord fully addresses this, my Washing machine 'back ups' will continue to ruin their delightful fitted kitchen and floor !!

We need players in now simple as that, and probably more in January aswell. If we wait until January it will be way too late and cut adrift too far and we'll end up with no body as its a lost cause. How the owners get around FFP is there problem it's there mess they need to sort it. Free agents asking for a wage will be a drop in the ocean compared to losses they will get in L2.

Your local early learning classes could help you with that !

In the mean time - DON'T criticise a comment you have not fully read, let alone understood. Easy to do, pal !
