Granby, We have a gritting contract for the carparks and paths under our control and as things stand it's dry so no ice.

Good to hear. I live on a hill and was just picturing what Burlington Street would be like.

Charlie Nicholas isn’t just “sitting there thinking” he knows the snow will be coming

Maybe pathetic but a genuine question Roger, what are the benefits of a contract for gritting? I assume the contract has other benefits, wherever I've been somebody gets some grit and goes and throws some down.

I've never heard of a gritting contract.

First benefit is we don't have to store large quantities of grit which we may not use, the risk is with the contractor. Second the contractor, through Paula Watson the Operations Manager, has a list of fixtures and links this to the weather forecast and other local clients they serve, e.g. supermarkets so we are on a gritting run, saving cost of one off trips. Third, by having a contract we are ensuring we are not at the end of a list which we would be if we just phoned up on the 'off chance'. Finally with the right plant we can cover the areas we need quickly, leaving staff to treat the more difficult, hard to reach places and steps manually.
This arrangement has been in place for years, as has an arrangement with a plant contractor to bring in JCB's in the event of snowfall.
Hope that helps, by the way we only pay when a gritting visit is made.

Just the type of response I would expect from a pro' football club. But great to have it confirmed. Thank you.

Was that the 1-1 draw followed by the 5-1 tonking we gave them at VP?
The coldest I've been was the defeat there just before Xmas in the same season. Open terrace in snow and a wind straight from the Ural Mountains. It was one of Trevor Cherry's last games in charge. Dolan was interim manager for the FA Cup game in January

Yes it was. Think a conga was started at half time to keep warm. Believe Stuart scored a second half equaliser and we amused ourselves throwing snow balls at their keeper!!
5-0 up at half time in the replay and we missed a penalty too which i think was aided by the away fans returning the favour and pelting our penalty taker with snow from the old Bradford end terracing.

It was never in doubt the game would be off.

It's no shock we sit never the bottom of the league when fans like @Keefly Bantam@Keefly Bantam act so soft.

If it's too cold for you then don't go but if you do go the dam our players need our support.

Indeed. I remember people running around at half time in Oldham, just to try and keep warm. Peter Lichfield let a pea roller through his legs.

Sure the home game was played with snow banked up around the pitch. Sticks played like a God that night and got his big move to Villa shortly after.

Pretty sure Cherry was already history and not in charge. City fans demonstrated and it made the T&A the following Monday, including photos of their banner.
