If the club has them on say 2 year contracts and they have devloped into saleable assets during that time, the players can simply leave at the end of the two years and the club is in the hands either of a football tribunal or the EPPP to determine their value. The club really has to start to put its young potential young stars on lobger contracts before other clubs or agents turn their heads. Posh have it about right. Most of their potential 'stars' are on 3 year or longer contracts which are either routinely extended or the player becomes open to offers with 12 months to go. But that requires a change to our current practices and may involve giving duffers longer contracts than some might like.
