Yeah, Oztumer, he's exactly what we need, but......some are creaming themselves watching Guy "put in a tackle", it's so backward looking.

Gilliead again offered nothing, just like all season. McCartan was woeful, playing as if he's having a kick about on a beach in Spain, no urgency and wasteful. Only one who looked interested was Gibson!

I think McCartan is a good footballer, so he will have no place under the hoofmeister. Gibson was great for 10 mins, give him a 3 year deal I say!

I must admit when I saw C. Hawkes on the screen, I did start singing, '' I am the one and only'' to myself.

Personally think you need a bit of both. You need the Guy type for sure, but you definitely need more creativity and guile than we have shown from midfield this season.

Agree, but I criticised Jones & Doyle for their lack of creativity, but they were like Cruyff & Riquelme compared to Dieng & Guy.

I like Guy's attitude too but he is player who cannot read the game or anticipate, he has zero awareness when in busy traffic, when the ball breaks to him in a tight spot, he does the very same thing, he hoofs it. Doyle knew what he was going to do should the ball break to him, and he was a lower league journeyman.

He's done well all season not just last night, that's why he is in the L1 team of the year and none of our midfielders made the squad....

First half was woeful. Second was better when Lund was moved centrally and we were unlucky not to find a second in that spell when Gibson had his chance, McCartan's long range effort and Dieng's chance was blocked when it looked goal bound.

Warnock superb and would definitely have him for another year if he changed his mind. McCartan looked a bit better out wide but didn't cover which nearly cost us. Wyke worked his socks off but it was another example of how he needs an out and out forward with him - step forward Alex Jones next season hopefully.

I thought Matty Lund looked good when played centrally again and if Burton somehow survive, I'd definitely consider him permanently. He is wasted a bit wide left though. Gibson was exciting when he came on and he'd be worth another year. I was impressed with Hawkes though he looked composed on the ball, moved the ball well and made some decent forward runs - interesting that he was selected ahead of Devine.

    Abbo's right though, isn't he.

I don't mind Callum Guy, he loves a tackle and puts himself about, and there's definitely a place for that in a team, but he isn't exactly brimming with ability on the ball, his passing is suspect at best.
it's no good having "11 Callum Guys" in the team - we'd be relegation fodder. we'd have no threat on the ball what so ever.

I thought Hawkes did a good job when he came on. Nothing flashy, kept things simple, but very effective. He looked very composed for a 17 year old. Quite promising.

Is he only 17, sounds really promising. Can’t wait to see him.

He was 17 when we signed him at the beginning of March but apparently has since turned 18. He is a big lad for his age too. I think the Blades must be blessed with lots of promising defensive midfielders to have let him go.

so with Gibson on what we saw last night Robinson and now Hawkes the development Squad is already starting to bear fruit and if there is a change of policy upcoming I hope they don’t scrap it

I'm not sure you can count a not completely terrible 10 minutes from a 17 year old kid as evidence the development squad is starting to bear fruit.

    let's not go overboard here.

You're right @Ricc@Ricc, but the thought of 11 Gibson is far and away better than the thought of 11 Domonic Poleons .

Honestly, Hawkes looked like he needed another couple of years to me.

Perfectly fine if he progresses. Devine debuted at 19 and has really struggled since - we'll see what the future holds, far too early at the moment though.
