It's where we go from here now though RT, if somehow he can pull his finger out then he could still save himself and us, doubt it but because there is just nobody else to lead this party/government I hope he can..

Johnson is a farce, his position is completely untenable and his performance today is beyond laughable. Its insulting.

However, the idea of a Labour government is terrifying. I sense a degree of common sense and transparency, and balance coming to light around how we manage COVID. Starmer wants to go even harder at restrictions.

Johnson should have at least one shred of decency Tone, and resign right now. He has lied all the way though like the born liar that he is, his position is completely untenable. This PMQs for you though, he's literally on the ropes getting knocked out, using the same stock answer to questions asking him to resign and someone asks a question about washing machines lol.

I thought Chris Bryant did better with his single question that Starmer did with his 4 to be honest.

Johnson is putting a lot of weight on that enquiry - nothing is going to happen until that comes out.

Trying to cover his arse with a pointless enquiry sums the joker up. Not even bothered about who gets the gig next or which party were in charge, this idiot has to go. He really is a horrible human being, everything about him.

From what I made from PMQs it's that Boris's defence is he was there but he didn't realise it was a party and looking back he wish his he had sent them home and he is sorry for not doing so.

That's pretty much his defence isn't it?

Also the wait for the enquiry to complete is blatantly kicking the can down the road to buy some more time without any shame.

He isn't sorry for the party, he is sorry he got caught.

Yep. They're basically saying that it's not unusual for the Downing Street staff to work outside and not unusual for them to eat/drink while working. None of that is completely out of the question to me I suppose. Johnson is basically then implying that he was unaware of the BYOB organisation element of this particulat event and saying that for the short amount of time he was there is appeared no different to a 'normal' work day.

To me Starmer went on the wrong line of attack by talking about "hosting boozy parties", he doesn't need to make out that Johnson was organising them or even if they were necassarily boozy. It gives Johnson the opportunity to weasel out of it if he is shown to not be "hosting" or even particularly attending. The fact he doesn't actually care enough to spot a social event or control his staff should be enough!

I said on the other Covid thread that Chris Bryant had the right angle on it. Once again putting the emphasis on how embarrassing the whole thing is for the other Tory MPs and how Johnson will willingly throw them under the bus - they're the ones who are already wavering in their support of Johnson and will eventually get rid of him. There's no wiggling out from that.

Yes I saw Chris Bryant talking about throwing other staff under the bus as scapegoats to save himself.

Boris won't resign, however the letters to the 1922 chairman will now be coming in pretty rapidly, especially in marginal seats where he is seen as a liability. The Tories has got rid of people like Thatcher before when she ran her course, they won't hesitate in getting rid of Boris when they believe he has ran his.

We already know of 100 Tories who aren't happy with the current restrictions in place, and we know they are up for review before the 26th Jan which is two weeks away. The last thing he needs is another large revolt at his leadership so on the bright side there is hope that we can get back to normal on the back of all this.

It seems the fat lying charlatan is trying to wheedle his way out by claiming he thought 30-40 people quaffing booze at No 10 was a work event. Literally no-one with two brain cells to rub together believes that.
The Cabinet Secretary sent an email to 100 people inviting them to bring a bottle to the PM's back garden, to enjoy a drink in the sunshine, and didn't bother to inform Johnson himself that this party was going to happen? Not a chance.

What the feck were the police doing while this illegal gathering was happening? Standing guard to make sure no one found out?

No one believes his version of events and that doesn't even start to explain the fact his missus was there drinking gin.

Whoever is leaking all this has more ammo, and won't stop leaking it until he's gone.

It wasn't even the Cabinet Secretary who sent out the BYOB email. It was Johnson's own Principal Private Secretary, Martin Reynolds. It does't get much closer to the PM in No 10 than that. We'll have to wait and see whether he is next to be pushed under the bus by the PM!

ps You know you've been to a good party when you have to order an inquiry into whether the party happened or not ;)

Surely there must be 54 Tory MPS who agree with the rest of the population that we have no confidence in bungling Boris.

I think the Tories want him out more than anyone, he’s got more chance of losing them the next GE than Labour have of winning it. Trouble is it’s like who wants to hold the grenade with the shit the countries in. From a Tory point of view best thing is to wait until Covid cases come down and then force him out. Summer time would be my guess at a new PM.

Out of interest has anyone actually been taken to court and convicted of breaking the laws for parties during lockdowns? I would have thought one of the news outlets would have found someone to give their sob story about how unfair it is that they got convicted when Boris has so far got away with it.
