Very little in life is more satisfying and enjoyable than watching the Tory Party eating itself alive in slow motion. Especially when the membership of the party, and certain people on here, think that the only way to recover their popularity is to become even more socially right wing, in the face of all the opinion polls that demonstrate the contrary.
And the idea that Mad Nad was refused a peerage because of some dark conspiracy (rather than because everyone bar her and Johnson knows she's an utterly useless Twit who doesn't deserve a peerage) is beyond parody.
It's almost got to the point where I'm considering subscribing to the Daily Fail for the shits & giggles.

 

Actually, it seems there may indeed have been a conspiracy of sorts from Sunak's cronies to keep Mad Nad out of the Lord's, according to Robert Preston, who usually knows what he's talking about.
Which, of course, makes it even funnier.

Can't watch politics anymore, feels like i'm watching an episode of Brass Eye it's that bad. I seriously can't tell if it's all parody these days. Even at Johnson announcing his leaving i'm seeing commentators asking if Johnson was hard done by? Its just one big comedy sketch but with no laughs, just a sigh of resignation from anyone who remotely cares anymore.

 

Chris Morris must be the political advisor for the Tory party at the moment. You are right, it's hard to tell the difference between Brass Eye/The Day Today and real life at the moment. Funnily enough it was "Cake" which got Boris in trouble and it was "Cake" that was a large part of one episode of Brass Eye. It's a feckin disgrace....

MP’s, as a rule, unless they’ve done something exceptional, shouldn’t be getting honours anyway. In my opinion, they should be used for people who’ve gone truly above and beyond. Not used as leverage or favours, which what is happening now….That said, I’m laughing my nob off at this, that the Tory party actually really think this is important.

 

Johnson absolutely destroyed by the Commons Privileges Committee (with a Tory majority, don't forget). His pathetic sycophants predictably crying 'stitch-up'.
This one will continue to run and run. There will be the full Parliamentary vote on the report, at which the few remaining Johnsonites will try and fail to amend the motion to neuter it, and in doing so will further amplify just how riven apart the Tory Party is.

I wouldn't put it past the deluded narcissist Bunter to mount a legal challenge to the report, on some spurious legal grounds, just to keep himself in the headlines for the foreseeable future.

It's a damning indictment of the Tory Party that they ever allowed such an amoral charlatan (a man first identified and labelled as a serial liar and entitled narcissist during his school days at Eton) anywhere near the leadership of their party. And a damning indictment of this country that it voted him into power at No.10.

 

Telling that this non story excites you more than the daily channel invasion, daily stabbings, all of us being stung paying for the ludicrous net zero falsehood, protesters stopping good folk getting to work, hospital appointments etc, endless political strikes...and all this sh1t under a faux tory government.....

 

The two go hand in hand. When you look at the shitstorm you have mentioned and the verdict on the last but 1 PM you can kind of see where we are where we are.

What excites me is the Tory Party ripping itself to pieces. Anything that exacerbates and advertises the depth of the rancour and division in the Tories is grand by me.
What intrigues me even more is that, when they lose the next election, the Tory Party membership will likely push them further to the right, just like you want them to do.
That process will hopefully condemn them to years in the political wilderness, as (like you) that membership fails to recognise that their demographic is an ageing and (literally) dying breed that is shrinking as a proportion of the electorate and that the majority of the electorate no longer share their socially blinkered views.
Recent polling (for the Mail on Sunday, no less) shows that the biggest concerns for the electorate are the cost of living and the NHS. Next are the state of the economy and, yes, climate change (despite your ostrich-like belief to the contrary). Immigration and strikes are not in the top five issues and Brexit is now seen as a negative by the majority.

It's going to take a sensible social democratic government many years, if not decades, to undo the damage caused by the Tories since 2010, so the longer the Tories are kept as far away from government as possible, the better

It's not rubbish. You judge everyone by the company you keep. You think that most people hold the same inward looking views as you, but they don't. Opposition to Brexit amongst under 40s is overwhelming. They see it as limiting their opportunities and trashing the economy that they have to live with far longer than you or I do. Many of them are angry that older people believed Johnson, Farage etc's lies and voted to isolate us all on an island of shrinking importance.
Their attitudes towards race, immigration, gender, sexuality etc are far more liberal than you imagine, especially down south, which is the most populous part of the country. Most under 40s (and plenty more besides) take climate change seriously and want to see measures taken to mitigate it.
It's the likes of you, who are out of touch with the zeitgeist, who think that what most people want is more right wing policies. They don't.

There have been several polls in recent times which have flagged up that the Tory obsession with culture wars and immigration is simply not what most people, especially those under 40, are concerned about.

Hundreds of Tory councillors in previously safe Tory seats all over the south of England were voted out in May because of dissatisfaction with government priorities. Many Tory MPs in those seats will go the same way at the next GE. Time after time, canvassers were told on the doorstep that what those people want is a decent NHS (like it was under Labour) good public services, economic competence, clean rivers and lower mortgage payments, not endless fixation with small boats and climate change protestors.
Most voters in the south, including Tories, were Remainers, and they're pissed off because Brexit has self-evidently become the shit show that many of us always knew it would be.

Many northern voters voted leave to limit immigration, and we've now got more, not less, of that, albeit not from Europe. So that's gone well.
They also expected socialist style economic levelling up investment from the government. This was promised by Boris Bunter but reneged on by Sunak in his return to the failed policies of economic austerity - outdated Thatcherite attempts to clean up their own mess that have never worked in the past and won't work now.
So they're basically fecked at both ends and calls for a 'proper Conservative government' from right wingers like Philip Davis and yourself are a million miles away from what most people see as priorities.
