Oh i'm not overthinking by any means Kev, it was simply an expansion on @Ulysses S Grant post. I just thought it would be interesting for people to see what the benchmark will be

 

Agree. That's my point. My attempt at sarcasm was poor!

It can be misleading because people quote the "3 points off the playoffs" in a way of saying if we win then we'll be in the playoffs but in reality half of the other teams in between will win.

Also if Crawley, Newport and Walsall get a point from their game in hand then we go back three places.

 

I reckon this year's 7th place will need the lowest points total since we sneaked in on 69 in 2013. Could be as low as 70, we can't afford to lose 5 from 13, but if we can pull of 8 wins & 2 draws we are in the mix.

 

A lot of teams will be going for 7th i think. Need Barrow and MK to start wobbling for a 4 or 5 games stretch to pull them into the pack.

 

It certainly is a huge ask, and the odds are firmly stacked against us. For clarity, the 7th placed team for the last 10 seasons in L2 since we were promoted finished thus:

13/14 - York, 71 points, +11 goal difference, not promoted
14/15 - Plymouth, 71 points, +18 GD, not promoted
15/16 - Wimbledon, 75 points, +14 GD, promoted
16/17 - Blackpool, 70 points, +23 GD, promoted
17/18 - Lincoln, 75 points, +16 GD, not promoted
18/19 - Newport, 71 points, 0 GD, not promoted
19/20 - Northampton, 58 points, +14 GD, promoted**
20/21 - Tranmere, 73 points, +5 GD, not promoted
21/22 - Mansfield, 77 points, +15 GD, not promoted
22/23 - Salford, 75 points, +18 GD, not promoted

**Denotes the season was halted after 37 games due to Covid, and current standings were honoured

We are currently on 46 points, +2 GD, with 13 games left to play - potentially 39 points available. It's not bleeding likely by any stretch of the imagination, but funnier things have happened. With the league being as tight as it is, it shows just what a poor standard it really is this season

 

Oh don’t get me wrong Steve you did a great job, it’s the permutation of results that are overwhelming.

 

Interesting to see Stockport having a mini wobble. Only 1 shot on target in tonight’s game!

 

Like I've posted before, we play 6th, 10th and 12th in the next fortnight with Donny at home in between.
Big IF's but we can make some real ground whilst passing others.

 

8 wins from last 13 games and we take a playoff place 100%.
It’s in our own hands, we must not give up and we don’t need off field distractions like protesting against the regime.

 

Think it also shows why Carlisle are in their current position.

 

Wrexham were let off yesterday by some terrible linesman decision. It's another Jack Payne vs Sunderland one. Cant believe this one wasn't given on the video, the lino is at the corner flag too, he is looking right across the line and seeing the keeper in the goal, his gloves and ball are clear as day behind the netting and doesn't give a goal.

 

Another example of the abysmal officiating in L2. Getting beyond a joke now

Its like the Lino at VP on Saturday...how many times did he flag for offside despite not been able to keep up with play - 3 or 4? Pathetic standard

 

They had some lucky breaks in the last couple of games.

 

The referee calling half time ( he overrran) by giving a fictitious free kick when we had a set piece on Sat. That was laughable.

 

Oh yeah! Pathetic wasn't it

 

No point in overthinking it yet Steve. The potential outcomes are a greater calculation than winning the lottery.
