All about how you build a team, Parky was brilliant at it in his time here. He stuck rigid to a formula and recruited players around this. No one really expected the success of players like Jones, Meredith, Darby, etc. Wells was his joker card and every manager needs one or two, Vaughan should be one of them at this level. The players McCall has brought in so far aren't bad buys, I'll reserve judgement on DMH who is 23 and hasn't done anything. This young kid Elliot Watt could be another Josh Cullen, who knows. But with all the players currently looking for work it would be nice to see us sign a few players without a link to either McCall or the club.

Oh come on mate. You are making a comment well you are a politician missing the main point.

The main point is Gary Bowyer. Utter shambles of a manager who was a defensive bore. Most forwards would struggle with him in charge. He was dog awful.

I agree. Nice bloke and very personable to talk to, but tactically awful. To set up defensively in home games in league 2 was tedious to watch. Yes we had a good home record, but it was boring to watch. Away from home clueless

I might be missing something but has a salary cap been announced? It seems to me that other cubs are signing players as they like on whatever contracts they like and we're abiding by rules that haven't yet been passed, and if they were deals done already wouldn't be included. Is this true?

So are we working to a salary cap that doesn't exist yet, while others aren't, or aren't we? Could someone enlighten me?

Yeah, but even so, now people are saying they're borderline not good enough.

    Which is it?

To be fair to Bolton they had very few players, the ones they kept are under 21s and apparently exempt. They might be spending a significant portion of their budget on a few marquee signings and then filling out their squad with cheap players. I'm not sure how Salford are working towards the cap though.

surely the problem here ,is the lack of leadership from the efl. If there is to be a salary cap for this upcoming season, then no one should be allowed to sign any players , until everyone was in no doubt what the rules are going to be and when the season will start.
Its a gamble for all clubs, do you sign higher profile players on larger wages or people who many deem not good enough.
Since last season has officially ended , surely any player signed after will count towards next seasons wages.
Its a difficult position for any club to be in , especially with no idea what incomes might be in the coming months and any windfalls not going to be allowed to be invested in the squad once you have passed the suggested 1.5 million.

The rule isn't in place, so you can't punish clubs for signing players now. It can only count for last season contracted players and from when the rule comes in to play.

We don't know the amount and it's not as simple as saying you can't spend more than 1.5million.

League 2 clubs like us are poor with money it's not the players wages that are the problem it's the lack of investment off it.

Clubs needs to learn to self generate money better and laws need to come into stop owners like ours loaning a club money and using it as a bank. Either invest in the club or sell up.

The owners are the problem not the players.

Bolton and Salford might actually be going about it the right way. Sign the players now and only a percentage of their wage goes towards the salary cap.

Do you know that for certain, the efl cant be trusted and in my opinion are not fit for purpose . Look at last season with Bolton and Bury. Both clubs broke the rules , but in my opinion because Bolton are a more famous club , they got off easier than Bury and again Bolton are signing players on what i would think are far greater salaries than most clubs in league 2, what will doyle be on a week £3000+ and from what i have read the salary cap also has to include pensions , paye and bonus payments
so he must be using £250,000 of Bolton's available spending .

Well I do know it because I have seen the activity from Bolton, Salford and Mansfield. Three clubs in our division that will be in the meetings.

If Ryan said your wife was having an affair would you believe him? End of the day you have to figure things out for yourself and Bradford City I am sorry to say is a club full of excuses for failure and lack of progression off the pitch.

I think that if the rule came in play to include current signed players it wouldn't be voted in. Remember this has to be voted in this salary capping.

At this moment nobody knows , how it is going to pan out. Thre three clubs you mentioned are taking a calculated risk. It does appear that a salary cap is going to be favoured by most clubs in league 2 and who can blame them, as it will put the smaller clubs on a par with the larger or more affluent clubs by reducing there spending power.
By the way Fordy , i have never seen a positive post from you on any point regarding Bradford city. If you are this wealthy business man you say you are, why not front a consortium , to buy out Rupp , sack Rhodes , buy the ground back from Gibb,s pension fund and build our own training facility, i am sure it would only cost you the best part of £20 million, then you can show us all how a football club should be run.

I keep hearing of these mythical owners give me an example of any city owner in the clubs history who have plowed there own money in. Interestingly the nearest to it was the Rhodes family

Having followed city since the mid 70,s , i can not think of any that have invested any serious amounts into the football club, money to make a real dlfference , from there own pockets. The only person i can think of with that kind of cash , would be Jack Tordoff and he was reluctant to spend when he owned the club. 88 nearly season being an example.

I go back to the 50s and the only people to put real money was the Rhodes family. So there is no real hope any body coming in will run the club any different

A very serious euro millions roll over and i would give it a good go. Heading towards 60 now , dont need the money so i would use it to try and imprvoe the city of my birth through investment, without wanting financial return. It is a trait that most people have forgotten, it,s all about what is in it for me.
