Maybe missing the point but isn't that what's been happening since they became chairmen? Edin, Greg and Stuart all together picked the players to sign. Chief scout obviously recommends/pulls up a list but I'm sure Stuart brought up the idea for a couple of signings and then they all confirm.

 

So by your old quote we only ever have two before and now we are down to one?

Why is Abbott any less qualified than a manager who spend 75 per cent of his time managing a side, training the side and very little time getting out to look at players once a season starts

 

I never said Abbott was less qualified, but surely the man who will spend every day for the next 10 months coaching the players should be deciding who he wants. Or at least having some input.

I've no problem in a committee, like you said, the manager is too busy once the season starts so I agree there but at that point a manager is here to give his input. We've no manager to give his input at this current time

 

I'm not saying they don't. I'm saying that the examples he selected were obviously flawed. If he finds me a few examples of a transfer committee when on mid to lower range budgets being successful then I'm all ears. I'm just not sure he will.

 

How about Stuart McCall 2016/17?

 

It's not about qualifications, it's about whether Abbott struggles to actually spot a decent player that will fit in our budget.

At the moment I'd say he's either struggling badly or being stitched up by Edin but either way the "transfer committee" is increasingly looking unfit for purpose.

We already had the nucleus and spine of a very good 11 at that time and I'd also suggest that our budget was falsely inflated by the big earners left over from the PP reign.

Last season was probably a more accurate barometer and I believe this season will be the most accurate yet. If it works you can come back on here in 12 months and I'll hold my hands up and say I was wrong. Let's just see.

 

Josh Wright? At 28 he's been around this level a long time so probably about a par signing for where we are maybe. Certainly not a stand out signing but doesn't look poor either.

Joe Riley? He's only made 2 senior appearances in his entire career to date. How on earth can anyone make a judgement call from that?

 

Not according to Abbott. In his T&A interview he clearly stated the head coach will be critical to player recruitment therefore the head coaches appointment needs to happen sooner rather than later.

Not once have I seen Edin claim the recruitment process excludes the manager/head coach - when one is obviously in position. Only at this moment in time is this happening and the recruitment list was pulled together with Simon Graysons input. Grayson continually said he and the club were preparing for next season as if he were to be in the post.

Where has Edin clearly set out that the recruitment process will not involve the manager/head coach?

Hmm, we will all have to take your word for it but convenient argument for you ;-)

It is however at odds with everything else either reported through the media (written form) or verbally on the radio. I appreciate - and not gullible enough - to hang on their every word. Quite often what is said in public does not play out in reality but at this moment in time I will give Edin and his philosophies a chance.

He won't need my input he'll fall flat on his face without my help, unfortunately it might take the club back down to league two before some recognise it, but you keep banging the Edin drum.

 

Trying to hold my breath until after the new coach is appointed and pre season signings but I fear you may be right. Unfortunately.

 

I do hope I'm wrong, because that will mean were having a bad season, but if I am right the recent fans reaction will be nothing in comparison
