The best players in L1 are normally chased by the top end L1 and Championship sides which are all bigger and richer than us.

Bradford are historically a lower league club. Dont let 19,000 crowds fool you.

 

I forgot. We're lucky to have a club. Let's be grateful that we've got £30k or we'd never have been able to afford Jacob Hanson.

 

So......we're doing it on the cheap.

 

Why bring up Hanson? Why not Wyke who was in demand and cost £250k? Which is more than Lawn and Rhodes spent in a decade on players.

 

Exactly Sergio. Maybe not as much as expected, but the Owners have invested in the Club and under M&J we rarely, if ever, paid transfer fees, as such.Fair to say that we have still been a Club who lived 'hand to mouth' so to speak. I think, in the absence of major funding, the Owners are pursuing a sensible approach.As fervent fans, we probably wish for more, but hey ho a new season awaits.

 

Lawn and Rhodes paid higher wages. So in effect it would be difficult to say who spent the most on players. What I want to see is paying a fee if it is for a good player who we need, and paying what is in effect a good wages, a balance between wages and bonuses.

 

Well we all want success, it's a question of working on the chemistry.

 

I brought up Hanson because it's been a shocking waste of money.....Add Poleon & McCartan.

 

Lawn & Rhodes spent it in a different way. How many players are we currently paying £6k a week to?

 

They certainly did - McLean, Morris, Hanson, Anderson... Brilliant.

I'd have us in the Championship though.

At least we can all tell the grandkids about that year we broke even under R&R.....

 

Hanson? Great servant for many years.
Anderson? Bad injury. Not a lot you can do about that.
Morris? Free transfer. Didn't do a lot for a season.
McLean? I'll give you that one.

I'd rather have McLean than Poleon though.

 

My point is both strategies have flaws. Poleon has resale value and a smaller wage.

We had to pay McLean off six figures just to go!!!

 

With this policy it is speculative of course there will be failures but successes as well like Robinson and maybe Gibson

 

Overall, one strategy got us to within an offside goal of the Championship, a League Cup Final & an FA Cup quarter final.

The other one has got a shower of sh1te to watch each week.

Agreed. That's why it doesn't make sense to pursue this strategy.

If 1 in 6 makes it. Let's be conservative and say they are on £500 a week, and a couple of coaches are on £500 a week, that's £4k a week to get a reasonable youngster.

Why not just pay a very good league 1 player £4k a week and stop wasting our time?

 

Anderson was a complete waste of a wage(what has he actually done in his career?apartf from scoring an important goal in a east anglian derby)
Maclean came at the back end of his career(could have sighned way way better for the money).
Morris got a decent sighning on fee and vig wages but struggled for form here.

 

I can name a few 'historically lower league clubs' sitting comfortably in the PL and championship
