If only Gilly could tackle though, and pass better.

Imagine if we actually had another proper central midfielder to play alongside Smallwood.

Look at the difference in having Halliday as a proper right back is doing compared to the last 2 or 3 seasons!!

I thought Gilliead was one the best on the pitch last night along with Cook and Platt. Does a lot of work that goes unnoticed

I'm going to go out on a limb and say, this is what we can expect all season long.

Yes, we're learning, and yes, we should theoretically see an improvement (particularly when we have a panicky 20-30 minutes, which we saw again last night), but we're so open when we attack that I don't think there will be too many games where we're just totally comfortable.

Expect plenty of squeaky bums at VP this season, but I still see us being able to beat most.

It's gonna be a bumpy, but enjoyable ride IMO!

Agree. But then they play different games. Hughes obviously knows what he gets from both of them.
I think the point I was trying to make (badly!), is that Levi doesn't have to be the headless chicken some are convinced he is. I think MH wants him to make those runs into the area an drag play up the pitch. Last night showed he can be more disciplined when asked to be. By the way I think Gilliead has been rock steady but a little too safe most of the time.

Gillead can tackle and pass and since he moved into that position under Hughes he has probably been our most consistent player

Agreed, him or Songo’o ( providing neither c/ back goes off injured) will come on to protect a lead by strengthening the middle.

It's a good problem to have wondering who our better players are and having a real competition for places.

Just 8 months about we were watching utter dross from Adams and being told in his post match interviews that we had been putting in good performances. We've come along way.

He wasn’t a headless chicken last night but no denying he has been so far this season. Maybe MH has had a word with him… don’t go hunting for the ball when you have no need to?

But I think sometimes Hughes wants him to hunting and try and cause a bit of havoc. It's what he does best when he is on form, which unfortunately he seems a bit off form at the moment

Gillead frees up space and takes players away with his running, which then leaves space for smallwood to pull deeper and pass the ball seen a few 30/40. Yard balls last night than we wasn’t able to do against Walsall

You declined to comment on my post yesterday. Probably because it was very factual. In general terms, he doesn't like putting his foot in. We need a tackler in there.

I have just commented and refute what you say. He can tackle and pass on top of that he is “the fittest in the squad” and gets about the pitch well he is perfect for the role. Less so further forward

Can you watch back the part of the match I'm referring to because he clearly didn't go in 100% for the tackle. If he had then they wouldn't have had the chance.

I am sure the best in the land have missed a tackle doesn’t mean his general play in this position isnt good at this level

The lad Odusina has to be given game time soon after his recent performance against Wednesday and if Crichlow is not 100% fit then the lad should be played

Aye, you talk in generalisations that you can dispute rather than exact data points.

Ultimately, he's like Songo'o. A utility player who wouldn't be in the first team if we had a player who specialised in the central midfield role. He's ok at what he does but he's not strong enough in the tackle.
