Seeing as our "better players " were all signed before the salary cap I doubt they will get a better deal anywhere

Won’t go down well but I can see one of our saleable assets leaving, either Wood or Staunton before the window shuts.

Actually, it goes down fine.

Football clubs have lost millions and you only need to see by this current window that the market is slow in terms of buying.

If Wood isn't to sign a new contract then we are best of selling him now.
As for Staunton if the offer is right then we sell and use the money to improve.

 

Why, what do you think the transfer fee would be if we sold him now?

I mean, I get this argument if you're a Premier League team and you can get a good £8 million for a star player - by all means you pretty much HAVE to sell - but why would we read from the Premier League transfer playbook when it bears no relevance to what will actually happen at VP? What are we going to get for Wood right now, £50k?

I think I'd rather have Wood for 5 months of a pretty damn important relegation battle than £50k and a weaker left back position.

 

Wood was quoted last week as wanting to sign a new contract or at least wanting to see if they can negotiate one

Depends on the fee, clearly. Wood is decent, but not irreplaceable.

 

For once I agree with you. Can't be having Wood doing a "Meredith" so he signs or goes. As for Staunton, if Peterborough want him then lets take the money and use it well. For the rest of the season we have AOC, POC and where's yer caravan at CB. Plus isn't Foulds also a CB ?

Get a decent fee and that money can be used in the summer rebuild.

 

Needs to get a wiggle on then. 31st Jan is his deadline to sign or be sold.

 

Why

 

I'd be annoyed if we sold Staunton to Peterborough now. Unless they're going to pony up a minimum of 500k with some juicy add ons. He should be growing with us for a couple of years and then aiming for a championship club. He's got a lot of potential that lad.

 

Bleedin obvious isn't it. If he isn't going to sign a new contract by 31st jan we need to cash in on him because he's worthless to us after that. Are you happy for him to walk in June and us not get compensated, because I'm not.

 

Well they must be confident he will sign then because when asked about Wood by Jamie Raynor the other day sparks said there will be talks after the window closes
