Let's hope the anticlimax with regards the Robinson signing is partly down to last nights result, IMO it's far to early to start dissecting our season so far.

The loan market was pretty active this year and as you say you should have a head start, however Adams isn't interested in developing your own talent, what would encourage a development manager to send loaness?

Port vale fans are laughing their heads off on Twitter.

Apparently he’s been training with under 18s all year long.

It’s going to take a while to get back up to professional standard and even then I’m not convinced he will bring anything to the team.

Sorry but this seems like such a backward signing. Something we’d have done in our previous L2 stint.

Alex Jones is nearly 27 and has played less than 100 games for a reason. He's also only ever scored 24 goals in his entire career. He clearly wouldn't have been the right signing.

During his spell at Colchester "He scored at a rate of one every 157 minutes during his loan spell, a statistic bettered only by Eoin Doyle in League Two".

    Perspective.

Once we'd shifted a couple of the bigger earners this summer, the budget was slashed.
Mr Rupp wanted to recoup some the money coming our way.
That's why the urgency to get Adams on board.
Not to give him a decent budget to take us up in the top three, but to get us up the Morecambe way.
We've a reasonable first 11, once injuries, suspensions and loss of form kick in, you'll see ( even now) we've a weak underbelly.
I said it a few weeks back, if we go up, it'll be via Wembley ...
Unless that is. We're really lucky with injuries, and when are we ever lucky with injuries ?

Completely agree. A significant difference I can foresee about what Adams did last year and what he can do this is the element of surprise. Nobody fancied Morecambe last season, but because of the size of City's crowds, they're considered a big club in this league who are perennially expected to do well. When you add Sparks talking up the chances of promotion in pre-season [inflating a lot of people's hopes] then anything less than probably a play off place isn't going to go down well.

I thought last season's squad was as weak as I've seen for a long time and it was always going to be a big ask to form a consistently performing and promotion challenging squad over a single summer. I think City's first 11 is a decent match for anyone in this division, but the rigours of lower league football makes the strength in depth just as important and the squad's probably not quite there yet.

Please get a grip yourself and look àt the stats properly

    ie. his 2019/20 season

I wonder if Swindon supporters similarly moaned about signing Doyle, given his poor form with us at the time

Well about half on here have spent most of the last decade telling us every striker, we had, was crap, clearly they must know who's good

Have you looked at the stats for his 2019/20? Some on here thought Swindon were nuts, for taking Doyle

Why would anyone have written Derek Adams off when he went to Morecambe? I get Sparks is trying to big up his new signing but its a poor analogy.

Guessing on the back of going from near promotion to near relegation and people wondering if he had the skills to crack it down south? Just a guess.

Anyone with an ounce of sense would understand there are times when you take whats on offer, especially when there are only a number of the 92 manager jobs available when you become out of work. Better to keep in work and relevant than wait for a job that might never come up.

Simple answer is my whole point was around career averages of players, the small margins between them and that there are very few players who over a whole career score better than one in three.

That's why I referenced Billy Sharp. None of the point was to do specifically with city players, I just used two of them to show my point. I could have been comparing Paddy Madden to Kevin Van Veen. Or Tom Pope to Curtis Guthrie.

My point was that very very few strikers in modern football have a better than 30% strike rate and the margins are so small that a 3% difference could lead to one being a legend and the other derided.
