Just looked, and if you moved to the EU before we left and got what is called an s1 form so the UK pay for the health treatment whilst over there then you can use the NHS when back. BUT if you moved since we left the EU then you can't

The only thing I'd miss is the regular connection with my closest friends and family. And possibly the spirit of going into my local and having a beer and natter with the regulars I know.

That's it. Can't think of anything else that couldn't be matched or bettered elsewhere.

Like you Rog, I've done plenty of travelling, including central and Eastern Europe. Much to admire about their way of life.

I know a few people who work for the NHS. All good people, wanting to do a good job. But the NHS is a systemically broken organisation, reflecting a broken government, public services and probably the country as a whole.

Pretty much everything is broken in this pitiful country, has been for years. Just talking to a friend of mine who's a foster carer. One the kids.he looked after is the only person in a home now as she can't be around others. 11 carers it takes. No homes in Bradford so she's moved far away but a social worker from the area has to visit every two weeks. Would have been dealt with in house years ago. And it's not just that service, you could go through the whole lot, education, law and order, the justice system, transport, social housing, all the health services including the NHS. It's actually embarrassing how bad this country has become.
I have some good debates with @Offcomedun@Offcomedun and generally he is right.in what he says about the system.

Incompetence reigns everywhere. Can't remember who said it but I agree; the world's now full of people who care deeply about looking good, but not actually doing good. I'm convinced western society is breaking down.

It looks as though the Govt is at last starting to get things sorted. They intend to outsource more Govt services. The first step is to outsource the entire UK legislative and judiciary to the private sector. Rumour has it that ITV's Drama Department is tipped to win the contract!

On the subject of public services being in the sh*tter - has anyone, anywhere, seen a gritter over the last 24 hours? I've been out in the car and on foot, and its sheet ice absolutely everywhere.

I've often wondered the same RT. Majority of Europe just seem to have their shit together far better than the UK. Simple things like logistics and general tidiness are miles ahead than us

I worked in Poland a few times between August & December 23. The first time I went in August was the first time I had been to Poland, and the picture I had painted in my head was outdated, stuck in the 80's, eastern-bloc type of place with unhelpful people. No idea why I thought that, I just did. Probably from snippets I had seen and heard over the years. Well I couldn't have been further from the truth, a fantastic place with lots of history, tidy, fantastic transport links, everything ran like clockwork, the natives grafted their bollocks off - proper "doers" - and couldn't be more helpful & friendly. I will definitely be returning in a holiday capacity at some point

Back to your question: If I moved abroad, what would I miss? Well probably a few general creature comforts and obviously watching city with my lad (despite how poor we have been). Aside from that, I reckon I would personally adapt well. Whether or not it happens remains to be seen

IIMO the majority of civil service depts are broke, which is down largely to being totally mismanaged. The people working in them are generally useless and love to fritter away the taxpayers money. Bradford council a prime example

My mate & his missus were foster carers. They decided it was too much hassle and gave their notice once the last kid had left them. 7 months later they were still being paid their monthly foster carers allowance despite notifying those in charge 3 times that they no longer did it. Over £17500 tax free income for doing absolutely f-all, and they've never tried chasing them for the money back. And Hinchcliffe and the rest of her inept clowns blame the Government for lack of funds :x3::mad:
