But if it did it would probably look like this...

Admins - feel free to move this if it doesn't belong here but I thought we could all use a bit of light hearted humour at the moment.

I found these brilliantly coloured apartments walking in the Gleisdreieck Park here in Berlin.

I'm in Berlin on Thursday for the darts and staying until Sunday. Any tips on what to see/where to go etc? I've had a quick look on trip advisor so have a few ideas already but anything that's not a tourist trap would be appreciated.

It's really difficult to say without knowing a little bit about what you like and where you're staying.

In Berlin there's the shiny side, the not so shiny side and everything in between haha...

As a general recommendation there are loads of bars and restaurants around Boxhagener Platz.
I'm sure you'll be able to find something there and it's reasonably close to the darts.

Bürgermeister - the burger restaurant chain is actually really good for the money but a bit more touristy.

If you're looking for beer on tap (a bit of a rarity),
Brlo (a brewery) at Gleisdreieck have a huge beer garden so it's more for the summer or Kaschk at Rosenthaler platz are all decent.

I'm staying by checkpoint Charlie in Alexanderplatz. I like a bit of sight seeing but the missus just likes drinking and eating so it'll be a small bit of sightseeing on an afternoon, mixed in with a bit of dinner and a pint and then move onto more beer in the evening I guess.

We thought about doing the old TV tower? to see the view but we've read some pretty terrible reviews so will probably give it a swerve.

Is everything reasonably walkable in Berlin? We both like to wander about and don't mind if it's a fairly lengthy walk but I've absolutely no idea how big the city centre is if I'm honest.

I've enjoyed my trips to Berlin, but as I tended to go for work-related stuff, my Berlin is fairly limited. I have wandered along all the famous streets/areas though: Unter den Linden, Ku'damm, Checkpoint Charlie & the Wall, etc.

Food & drink: If you're on the Alexanderplatz, then maybe try out the Brauhaus Lemke am Alex / Biermeisterei. I remember it as the Brauhaus Mitte, but they've changed the name and, it seems, much more, since I was last there. They have another branch at the Charlottenburg castle. Good beers, originally all on tap but now they bottle them too, and decent (German) pub food: sausages, Berliner bouletten etc.
Their website at times provides an "English" option, but at least for me remains stubbornly in German...
    https://www.lemke.berlin/en/

I always liked the Sophieneck as well. Neighbourhood pub, reliable German food. They used to have Kolsch on tap, but I don't see it on their online drinks menu at the moment.
Their website does switch to English, but with a very unfortunate typo on the one page, boasting that they have "...wpoor cuisine until 2200 hrs" ! (They mean to say 'warm' food, i.e. hot kitchen.)

For sightseeing: if culture/history vultures, try out the Museumsinsel with its complex of museums dedicated to the ancient world. Charlottenburg Castle for a later period, but just walking in the castle grounds is pleasant -- and the Lemke Charlottenburg pub is right next door. If 13th - 18th century painting is your thing, take the 200 bus to the Philharmonie stop, and head over to the Gemaldegalerie. If you're not already sick of Madonnas with children, you will be!

Further afield: Head over to Potsdam and Sanssouci (palace with grounds). Potsdam is pleasant to walk around in as well.

The city is large, so I'd say just pick a neighbourhood. get there on the buses/U-bahn/S-Bahn, and then wander round.

Thanks RCB, that's a comprehensive list but I'll certainly try to get round as much as possible.

I've already downloaded VBB for ease when getting the trains so hopefully it'll be fairly simple to navigate around.

I've been to Berlin a few times through work and the city is massive with a ring road similar to the M25. For the short time you're there if might be worth doing the tour bus. Checkpoint Charlie and the museum is revealing, the Berlin Wall (still standing in places) and the Brandenburg Gate with all its history.

Yeah, we're staying in a hotel right outside checkpoint Charlie apparently so I'll definitely get time to have a look around. I'm really keen on world war II history so I already know a fair bit of what to expect but it'll definitely be good to see it in the 'flesh' so to speak.

Depending on what time you leave Sunday a Hofbrau Haus brunch-is a lot of food and delicious.
There’s couple of shiso burgers which are delicious Japanese burger place.
And for a quieter drink there’s a place called cinema cafe which is off Hackerscher Markt which well priced-though sometimes cash only.
Berlin Zoo is very cool too

Only been once, and we may have been in the wrong spot, but finding a decent bar was very difficult. The other strange thing is they still have "smoking" bars. There was a sign on the door saying if the bar was smoking/ non smoking !

Went to Berlin this time last year. Took in a game at the Olympic Stadium, Hertha v Mainz. Called in a smoking pub on the way, fantastic atmosphere. People drinking throughout the game. Not a jot of trouble.

Same in Poland. I can buy 6 beers before kick-off and sit and watch the game while drinking them
