I might be naive but I don't believe we will be relegated this season. Yes, we will be in a relegation dog fight for the immediate future and it will be a tough couple of months but Rupp will know his own investment is at stake if we were to be relegated especially if the club entered Administration. Paying for a few more bodies in the building and somehow bringing in somebody to help SMc will be his insurance policy against losing the entirety of his original investment. With some reinforcements, we should just about scrape through with our EFL membership intact.
Being relegated doesn't even bear thinking about since the potential consequences for our club would be dire.

A quick check reveals 6 clubs that got promoted back to the Football League at the first attempt:

- Darlington as champions in 1989/90;
- Shrewsbury Town as play off winners in 2003/04;
- Carlisle United as play off winners in 2004/05;
- Bristol Rovers as play off winners in 2014/15; and
- Cheltenham Town as champions in 2015/16.

Interesting that you think Ryan Sparks will come of age but don't publicly back SM. Also damning that we may have to rely on others going into admin or folding to stay up.
I reckon SM will walk if needed to give someone else at least a chance of keeping us up, if not extending his contract looks like a shaky start for Mr Sparks or a poor parting shot from Mr Rhodes. Hopefully, RS & SM prove the doubters wrong.Bantamtom likes this. -
I’ve been pondering the contract extension for McCall. I think the rationale is broadly; I can’t imagine McCall is on a huge salary, and whilst I may be wrong, if it were determined that McCall had to leave for the good of the club then I don’t think he’d dig his heels in with regard to compensation. So the financial liability to the club is probably lessened in comparison to the same scenario with another manager. I think the move is intended to create at least a degree of ‘certainty’ or at least clarity,regarding the manager position, in support of transfer target discussions for January.Stop hovering to collapse... We don't need people to give it a good go. We need people that know what that to bloody do!
Which idiot decided to give McCall an extra year? I don't believe that was Sparks. What do we do? Just keep watching McCall lose games? It's great this!

Your point about the Colin Todd era though, whilst I agree there was a clamor for someone associated with the club, I think this was more out of desperation rather than it being the only solution. We had recent history which had shown that internal type appointments had worked and then gone through a spell of bringing in experienced outsiders - even paying compo for Nicky Law Snr (I think).JonButterfield likes this. -
1. Sack the current management team.
2. Carry out a proper recruitment process, seeking to identify the best available candidate for the managers job long term - not the easiest appointment.
3. Prepare for January so signings are already lined up to come in immediately, exploring the free agent market if necessary - accepting this will see a short term approach where required.
4. Create a scouting network to work to our new identity which is created under the new managers long term strategy.How likes this. -

A new striker is absolutely essential if we are to survive, no ifs or buts about it.
My opinion is, if McCall sees out this season then we will go down and languish down there until new investment is found. I cannot imagine Rupp funding us with say 4-5 thousand season ticket holders with the loss of the TV revenue and no more player clawback clauses to cash in.Gildy Pete likes this. -

We have a short term problem (relegation to the Conference) that needs to be fixed alongside a strategy for a long term fix to then move us forward. The short term is let Sparks run the club until early next year when we can hopefully secure Fourth Division football, and replace the entire coaching squad with a ready made short term fix of an experienced manager who bring in his own team.
In the meantime, we move heaven and earth to persuade Dave Baldwin to come back as CEO starting at the season end, and put a robust recruitment plan in place for a new management team who signs a pre-contract agreement as early as possible and starts recruiting new players (behind the scenes) ready to hit the ground running on 1st July 2021.
The short term management team may well end up being the long term replacement, if they are right for that, or could just be a really experienced football manager that we chuck a massive bonus at for keeping us up.
Either way, Stuart has to go if we don't pick up at least 4 points from our next three games. At present I'd trust George Best with my wine cellar, more than I trust SM with my football team.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand...
