My newborn out of hospital today, just in time for the match. Seems we’ve found a lucky mascot! (Even though he doesn’t look too impressed!)

Honestly mate some of the stuff I read on here has me shaking my head. 'Right Mark, we've pushed the boat out and found a million down the back of Stefan's faux leather sofa, your budget is £3.5 million.'
'Its ok Ryan, just give me £2.5 million and I'll make do without that backup striker and that quality midfielder we need.'
Cos that's exactly how it reads. Every extra pound given to Hughes helps him build a squad with the extra capability to go for promotion, just because Morecambe did it with peanuts does not mean it's the right way. Let's face it we're.gonna need those extra pounds to pay the wages of players of the calibre of Vernam and Walker.

 

The first half last week and about 70 mins of yesterday’s performance were a joy to watch. For the first time in years, we have a proper coach, genuine reasons and evidence to be optimistic about what might be possible next season and some of these players are showing that they have real ability. What’s needed now is for the club to show proper ambition - not just talk about being ambitious. Get Watt, Vernam, Walker signed up. Pay what’s needed. They’re all at good ages, they’d all be assets and they’re all at the right level of quality needed to succeed at this level and probably L1 too. Get Perreira back next season, get Angol on a sensible contract, add 4 or 5 good players in the summer and we could genuinely be a top 3 side. The opportunity is there - but I have no confidence in our club really going for it. What’s more likely to happen is that Watt and Vernam will leave, and Walker will take a deal elsewhere. Sustainability, innit.

 

Well done to all on a very impressive performance today.

Whether Sutton make the plays or not now, they can be proud of their first ever season in the Football League

 

It is INSANE that Rupp isn't looking at this as the opportunity of a lifetime.

Get the budget cranked up for ONE SEASON, make sure we're not signing players on three year deals, but GIVE HIM THE BLOODY MONEY.

Nooo! Perira, like Angol, Walker and Vernam, is a class way above Lg 2. I'd keep him in a shot.

 

Sutton fans were queuing up for photos with Hughes'y after the game, we have such an asset at the club - we must not *@?$ up this opportunity.a ssSutton fans said we were top 3 in teams they have played this season. I hope they don't go up because not sure they are ready for visit from Pompey, Derby,Weds or Sunderland etc but what a season they have had

 

Arguably the second half was better because a club doesn't get to 7th position without being half decent and they were always going to have a spell in the match where they put us under pressure after that first half.

Second half we saw two things we never saw under Adams;

1. A bit of resilience to find a way through a sticky spell and come out the other side and retake the lead
2. A tactical change from the manager which actually made us play better and resulted in us winning.

Long may it continue.

If you don't understand what I mean then I can't help you. Of course you immediately thought I was knocking our team. Wrong. We played football today that was the perfect antidote to a longball hoof side. Unfortunately most of the those who orchestrated this fine win won't be here next season, players like Watt, Vernam, Walker will be in demand at a higher level than league 2. But what it does show is that if you give Hughes the calibre of player then his football will pay dividends. Let's see how far next season's 'competitve budget' stretches.....
