Very true. Although our rich person doesn't appear to want to play with his toys.

    Exactly.
How do you make a football club worth £20m?
    Buy it for £30m.

Personally no I don't. Hughes didn't pick him in my opinion because he didn't rate what he saw in the pitch. I think anything regarding attitude is a by product of that rather than the cause of being dropped.

Isn't it easier to get out of L2 by going straight through it from the NL. With no FPP in the NL you can dish out big money contracts and build a very strong L2 squad, get back to back promotions by the time FPP kicks in when bringing in new players and contracts by which time the income at L1 is far greater and the club is therefore in a stronger position. Seems like that was the plan for Wrexham. They're expecting to go straight up this season

They purchased it when we were in LG1 and possibly Championship! He cannot possibly expect to get that back languishing in LG2

Wrexham might well be flashing some cash soon, Ben Foster has retired from football this morning. They signed a young keeper from Ireland this summer, but might not be ready.

Just posted it on the Wrexham match thread.

Always thought he was there for the social media/
    publicity side of it.
    Always had a GoPro.

Not saying he’s a bad keeper but 13 goals in 4 games is quite telling.

Apparently Rangers are happy to let Jon McLaughlin leave, looks like he's 3rd/4th choice keeper there at the minute. Wonder if Parky wants one of his old boys? Knowing them, they'll sign a championship back up for £500K by the time we play them next week.

Indeed. Going right back to when R&R bought the club, I always believed it was Lawn & Rhodes who got the better part of the deal. At the time Rupp put his hand in his pocket to the tune of €6,5m (including the costs of his advisers etc), Pompey was also up for sale at £5.5m which more importantly also included Fratton Park. Yes, there were some caveats around that in that the sellers of Pompey required guarantees from the new owners to inject further funds to increase the playing budget to a top end Div 1 level and fund some improvements at Fratton Park and all of this was valued ar around £3m. But all of that led me to the conclusion that the original purchase of our club was too high.

Since then of course, Rupp has had to dip further into his pocket to pay for the calamitous behaviour of Rahic. He decided to loan the club £1.7m to pay for Rahic's mistakes. That loan is still outstanding according to the latest published accounts. In short, the book value of the club in his investment companies accoun5s is around €8.5m. As @Onside@Onside rightly points out, in the meantime we have gone from a Div 1 to a Div 2 club.

From his perspective, if Rupp were to sell the club for less than the €8.5m book value, he'd crystallise a loss on the sale. That is probably the reality of the situation. The notion that he could sell the club for the £10-11m quoted is for the birds imo. In the meantime since the club operates on a self-sustaining with no further injection of funds from Rupp to wash its face, he appears content for it to simply tickover

I think if Wagmi had offered that asking price he would have sold to them. They probably made him a 'fair offer' but he was persuaded not to sell on the proviso he would get more the club should we get promoted.

Yep, I cant see him getting 8.5m for the club whilst we are in L2 to be honest although stranger things have happened. For any recent context and 4th tier club sales. The American who bought Gillingham and their assets was rumoured to have paid under £4m according to Gills fans on their forum but nothing concrete was released. Swindon were sold in 2021, again no public figure but the Aussie owner did an interview saying he spent $14m (about £7.5m) on the purchase of the club and last season another separate purchase of their stadium for £2.3m.

If someone offered market value, he'd probably look into it but as with the WAGMI debacle, he seems the type of business man that doesn't want to run the risk of any stains on his business reputation by just flogging things to any bidder. It will have to be someone with a plan and a good look for their money.

That's a variation on the old joke once used by Jack Wallace.

Q: How can you make a small fortune in football?

    A: Start with a large one! :)

I think all these over inflated prices Rupp is said to want is overstated. I think if a realistic price was offered I am sure he would sell. I think he would prefer to waI

Appreciate Hughes did the right thing last season on Young - he couldnt have done anything else really. Poor performances and a falling out left him no choice.

Its clear now that Hughes is holding a grudge though - and has frozen him out. Its a shame there are no second chances because I still maintain that Jake Young could be an asset for this club - too early to write off a player at his age. He has something and is slowly showing that at Swindon.

    Just watched the 5-5 highlights.

Kinda obvious why Foster retired, and it's nice to see Young doing well, but... yeah... come on...

The second one, Young just hit it straight at Foster and Foster somehow evaporated. 9/10 keepers are saving that by accident, let alone on purpose. His first was a header past a defender who missed it. Wasn't bad, just weak on Wrexham's part.
