From what I gather, Oduor himself wants to be in a more attacking role and has been trying to prove as much to Hughes - the cross for Cook's header v Middlesbrough will have helped, I guess. That doesn't mean he can't or won't play LWB if MH picks him there. So it is an option at least, especially with 3 at the back and if Kelly works out as decent cover. Maybe Hughes will give Oduor a more attacking role at VP. Gilly is a reliable if rarely spectacular cover at LWB.

As was suggested on the recent WOAP podcast, it looks like Taylor's throw in and height will be used in the last 10 mins (or 30 with new added time) to rescue or win a game. The many criticisms of his game from fans of his previous clubs would have us hope that he'll be used to his best attributes.

A reminder that we are in league 2. Pacey defenders who can also, you know, defend, are quite a rarity in this league. I think some people are worrying too much about this.

Agreed but your players and formation need to match up.
Pacey CBs are a necessity when you’re playing three at the back whereas they aren’t if you’re playing a flat back four.

    I said this as well.
The whole lack of pace argument is based on 1 goal at Crewe.

I think that was a tongue in cheek comment suggesting that must be why we have signed him because he has looked a bit shit as a defender....

Must admit I've not followed much over pre season due to last seasons disappointment hangover, so rushing myself through to get up to speed. At a glance it looks to me like we are hoping a lot of things across our squad land very kindly, especially in defence by which we're hoping Odusina comes good, Stubbs stays fit, Kelly kicks on and Taylor proves the doubters wrong, add these to a couple of injuries back there and it doesn't look good, a good high end L2 CB is missing deffo. CM without counting AMs doesn't fill me with confidence either as we relying on keeping McDonald fit otherwise we stuck with AG and Smallwood again, upfront not upto scratch either imo although not as short of cover as defence and CM is we are heavily relying on Cook by the looks,as Derbyshire is a decent squad member but of the bench imo and Smith is untried at this level.

Not for me. The need for pace (and I'm not saying rapid, just mobile) is because playing 3 at the back can leave lots of space in the channels and the wider defenders will need to convert that ground at times.

Pattison is a genuine central midfielder who can play alongside McDonald or Smallwood. I think that's the one area we seem to be much improved in.

Ok fair enough then as I thought he was a Jamie Walker type as in further forward.

I agree that’s massively relevant if we go to a 3.

My point was mainly based on the argument that last season we lacked pace at the back when Crichlow didn’t play.
And it was all based on the Crewe goal.

    Absolute nonsense.
I’ve gone on record as saying that pace isn’t as important in a back four as it is in a back three. Platt and Stubbs would have been one of the best partnerships in the division in a flat back four but the change in formation makes it much more important to have CBs with pace.

Right and as far as pace goes what is wrong with Kelly?

and MK Dons as well. We can't afford left wing backs like this though. He was on reportedly £20,000 a week at Wigan, so he'll still be on a fair chunk at Wrexham.
