Its gonna be an absolute pig of a division to get out of. Stockport and Wrexham disputing title IMO. Gillingham and Notts Cunty not far behind.

as for City, who know….. will Hughes adopt a new mindset? If not its another playoff lottery for us.

 

Money doesn't always buy success. Yes, the teams mentioned have very good squads on paper, but it just puts a heavier burden on the manager to make things work. A couple of serious injuries to key players for any team is all it takes to seriously derail a promotion push.

 

We shall see.

 

What have County done to earn the title contender favourite tag.? And is the reference to Gillingham and Notts C a Freudian slip?

 

It’s going to be a tough but enjoyable league let’s hope we don’t have comments all season demoaning it

 

Struggled at Wendy but look at his other 2 spells in L1 - 22 goals and 14 goals with Hull and Donny.

 

If he finds the right fit he is a real asset - ask Hull and Donny fans.

 

Why Stockport?

 

Wrexham struggling to sign players, due to the demands of the level of player they want compared to final having some kind of FFP to rule over. Danny Mayor the latest to have rejected them and he's gone to Fleetwood. Some of their key guys like Ben Tozer were struggling in L2 before dropping to NL, now 2 or 3 years older and might well struggle again. They will be up there but I don't think it will be the romp that people are expecting.

For me the title is between us, Stockport and Notts. Stockport have let go of some of their older lads, brought in mid 20s with some experience and are going younger but the general 11 will be very similar. Notts have a very interesting squad, Langstaff and McGoldrick could be the most dangerous pairing in the league. Midfield has a great mix of legs and experience. And I think our chances are really good as again the majority of the starting 11 all know each other, will have the odd one to bleed in and the new tactic (looking like a 352/532) will lead to some iffy results for the first 8-10 weeks whilst it gets going, but I really fancy us with the additions we have made so far.

 

Yes saw that. Spending lots of their benefactor monies last year didn’t really help them. A poor season after the drop?

 

Not sure Stockport are flashing the money this time. But there are other teams that I think will do well such as Grimsby and Doncaster.
We will have to be good this season to prevail

 

Wrexham aren’t struggling with anything. If you speak to their fans they believe they need 2-3 signings and that’s it. They don’t want a squad overhaul.
Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin is a nice front two to have so why go out and spend money for the sake of it? I agree they won’t walk it but with everyone else saying they are buying success blah blah blah they are actually being quite sensible in their approach. Parky will know exactly what he needs.

Tozer wasn’t brought to Wrexham because he’s a decent full back. He will struggle as you say.

 

That's because they are saving it all to buy Platt. Allegedly.

 

Only going from what PP himself said on Sky Sports news in the last week. His words were "we are struggling to get players over the line". They will need to upgrade and switch out some of those older names. Certainly in the top 7, but not the steamrolling that's being forecast by some.

 

I think some of these other teams are being built up way beyond what they are.

Yes, some have reasonable squads (us included) but I don't see a stand out team and I don't look at any other squad and think jeez that's way ahead of ours.

I also think some squads are being wildy overrated. Grimsby being one, I'd also add Doncaster to that list too.

 

Are you saying they have a very high opinion of themselves. Their comments is likely bravado. Even their intended golden boy, Williams couldn’t be bought as we know he now prefers life at home. We did something about it within a week using plan B. Not sure what they have done since, if anything?

 

I read an article from PP where he said they are looking at targets who are contracted at other clubs and we’re determined to get their main targets or they would go with what they have got
