A bit behind today USG? I said that a few pages back

 

All that showed us is that three CBs does not work and didn’t work once for us all season.
Platt and Stubbs always a looked good together and were statistically our best partnership, there was no reason to change that.
Every time we went to three CBs it backfired.

 

I think that's why we brought in McDonald. Extra added height from our midfield should hopefully help next year.

 

the Boulding brothers , Michael was ok , Rory came with him and was decidedly iffy .

 

Wonder where Crichlow will end up

 

What is worrying me though is that a number of players signed last season, and whom I assume Hughes agreed with as Ryan says they all agree on signings, have shown to be not at the right level then - Young, Odusina, potentially Platt. Not great decision making.

It’s not the formation , it’s having the right players to fit it.

 

So he wants to start. And Stubbs should start. And so should Taylor. And Kelly didn't come to sit on the bench. Odusina will be hoping to get back in the team. He's going to have to show he's very good to get ahead of the others or he could end up on a division two bench instead of a championship bench.

 

When you bring 17 new players in, in one window, you can guarantee a few of those aren't going to work.

This summer should be different as we are bringing in far fewer.

 

True, and I agree with you, but it's worrying that those that potentially aren't working out came in on three year deals with the belief that they were here for three seasons and being part of a team that was being rebuilt and with them in it.

in what way is it a surprise? I’d say one of the top teams are always going to want a top defender at our level

 

Competition is good isn’t and as I said before if it doesn’t work out players always move on the three year contract is a good way of getting better players

 

yes i remember them, but as you say , i am not sure if they were at VP at the same time Peter left in 1972 as John joined.

 

3 year deals are a way to keep the weekly wage down. Agreed, it is a risk. Young & Odusina are the prime examples. They'll probably go out on loan and we'll be paying a big chunk of their wages.

 

Off the top on my head I believe Peter left for Plymouth before John made the first team.

 

As long as we don’t get like stupidly run clubs ……Chelsea giving players 8 year deals.

 

I can’t see Taylor being a starter. My guess if we go to a back three is that it will be:

Odusina-Stubbs-Gordon

with their back ups being:

Kelly-Taylor-FCD
