It's abundantly clear for everyone to see that the players we have signed simply aren't up to competitive League One standard and/or cannot work together as a unit.

David Hopkin will essentially be doing a job similar to Stuart at the beginning of last season, which is trying to get the best out of a squad that simply is not good enough to be where we need to be.

The head coach system works for some clubs, but these clubs have a chairman and hierarchy who actually know what they are doing. Having Edin Rahic pulling the strings for our very own head coach system is evidently not working, nor do many fans believe he is capable of doing so.

If we are to continue with the head coach system, we simply must have somebody in charge of player recruitment who knows exactly what they are doing. Rahic and Abbott do not fill even the most optimistic of supporter with an ounce of confidence and the results confirm exactly why.

We have failed in the player recruitment side of things. We have got rid of our core squad and brought in practically an entire new team full of players who lack ability and/or desire. This has led to us losing 5 of our 7 league games and hovering 1 point above the relegation zone and leaving us 4th favourites to be relegated, as short as 15/8 with Bet Victor. This is simply not acceptable for a club of our stature and somebody needs to be held accountable for the player recruitment side of things.

Stefan Rupp - Please investigate what has gone on here with your investment. There is little to no confidence in Rahic's ability to take this club forward, and he has failed implementing this head coach system. If you aren't sure you know what you are doing with it, sell up before things turn nasty. If you are determined to make your investment a success and are keen to remain with the head coach system, then you need to implement it properly. Invest in a proper Director of Football who will be in control of transfer dealings and player recruitment with full interaction with David Hopkin. Greg Abbott and Co-owner Rahic are not fit for this role, Stefan.

    Get rid of Rahic.

Bring back Mason or Baldwin, let Hopkin manage, scrap the development team.

    What a load of rubbish.

In the summer things like “best summer ever”, “what good signings”, “credit to Abbott” were often said. (Can easily be found on here and twitter).

Unfortunately we then appointed someone way out of depth and that’s affected pre-season and the start to the season.

We also have numerous injuries at the moment (Akpan, Reeves, Jones, Seedorf, Scannell, Chicksen and now Wright - any more?) which has made the squad look weak. There’s probably 5 starters in that list.

Get most of those players back and with good training and organisation from a proper Head Coach we should be fine.

    The Rahics reads this site.

Edin, you tried, you failed, you took the club from the edge of Championship to one who is fighting relegation this season as you are too stupid to take the advice & support offered by others who have the club’s interest at heart. You thought you knew football. In any other business the chairman/ceo would be out on his arse. Time to go Rahic family, time to go.

Let Hopkin take over recruitment however he sees fit. Get rid of Abbott and get moving now with the free transfer market and then with a view to January being hopkin’s and his alone to see who he wants.

If only it were that simple How, all DH can look at until January are out of contract players and many of the ones we have signed this summer are on at least 2 year deals so unless SR decides to provide adequate additional funds we are in a bit of a pickle

But I think they should. Rahic was an integral part of the recruitment and any replacement should come out of the owners pocket. According to some we have spent loads of money so our budget might well be empty.

So true Onside - but what they should do and what they are prepared to do are probably someway apart

It's perfectly possible to rate our summer signings, give Abbott and the board credit but still think we have a poor team/squad. A few examples:

*I thought Scannel was an outstanding signing, but if I knew at the time that our only wing options would be Scannel, Seedorf and Robinson, I'd have told you we are well short and that there's still room for improvement.

*I thought Akpan was a good signing, praised Abbott and Rahic for it, but had no idea that he as a defensive mid was going to be paired with another defensive midfielder in Wright.

*Judging our new recruits in an individual basis doesn't take into consideration that Chicksen was going to start the season as first choice LB or the fact that our bench is non league standard. They obviously can't be criticised for that half way through the transfer window when things can change.

Can you see how the 2 don't always go hand in hand?

I disagree with you. Your assessment is a simplistic one, I won't say lazy. The players signed are clearly good enough for this league. We have just signed too many similar ones leaving us overstocked in places and missing certain types of players. It's like having a steak dinner but missing the chips and the sauce. Average meals containing those elements would surpass the steak dinner but they shouldn't

Great post hard to disagree, individually we have signed some decent players at this level, but I only have to say the word Bury, look at them in the summer of 2017 some of our fans on C & B were even jealous of their business. This isn't FIFA or Football manager, you don't recruit just who you think are the best "ballers", you need a plan and philosophy.

In an ideal world this is what the majority of us want.

The head coach system does not work like this unfortunately.

Rahic and Rupp did the right thing in quickly letting Collins go.

However they still need to get rid of this whole management system they have set up. It's proved to not work straight away in my opinion.

I say let Hopkin manage properly, have full control over transfers and let him hire his own backroom staff as soon as possible.

The damage is done this season, we'll be lucky to salvage anything better than mid table, but it's not to late too move forward with progress and consolidate on our current position and start making positive steps forward to avoid relegation.

I think the only way we will avoid relegation this system is to simply let... DAVID HOPKIN MANAGE!! :D :D :D :D :D

    COME ON CITY!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

    Spot on.

As good as David Ball might be, you have to question if he was the type of player we needed.

It's like the recruitment is done assuming all forwards or midfielders are all interchangeable.

I seem to remember although many on here were saying what good acquisitions these signings were many I would suggest thought it was one of our many "quality applicants" who would have the task of turning these quality players into a winning, attacking team, then we found out none of these quality applicants were good enough for Edin but an unknown youth development coach was, and you wonder why we aren't getting the best out of these players.
I noticed you quote "Get most of those players back and with good training and organisation from a proper Head Coach we should be fine" yet you and a couple of others were Championing Edin's appointments of Collins, Drury and Abbott.

Come on @Just Looking@Just Looking lets have a bit of consistency from you ?.
