Met a chap who works in HR at a PL club a few weeks ago at a networking/training event. You'd be surprised what players have in their contracts and once some clauses become common for a few players they soon spread to others. Agents will push anything that gets their client (and them) a bit more money.

It isn’t just finding the funding but also working it into the business so it is included under the SCMP, or whatever it is called now. Paying people off comes from your footballing budget so in theory would reduce the amount available to spend on players

If you accept this it kind of takes away the anger to an extent. But we as fans need to know our aims and until we are down no one knows what we are planning for. The season ticket deadline needs to move for a start.
The problem with all this is the protagonist has gone and we are still looking at individuals to aim our ire at. No individual player is responsible for this mess, its a culmination of goodness knows how many mistakes by one man. The natural conclusion to this debacle is relegation, it could have happened to any club that the German halfwit chose, unfortunately it was us.
The hard part is getting out of your head that the last 5 years hard work before the Germans has been for nothing. Every bit of that progress has gone and we have nothing tangible to show for it. Back to what we've spent most of our history doing, bouncing between the bottom two divisions.

Yep. Don't be naive mate. In UK law you don't just cancel someone's contract and wave them cheerio while you open the door for them! Unfortunately there's not much overlap between sentiment/emotion and commerciality in business!

It may be hearsay to you but, without naming sources (and others both on here and elsewhere have written about the losses), just look at the basic evidence: attendances well down and a huge squad of players, many of whom do not want to leave despite being frozen out of the first team. And that's without referencing any of the hearsay, that you may or may not choose to believe.

Oh I'm well aware of that. It was purely a rhetorical statement.

Just because a player is on a contract, doesn't mean that City cannot transfer list them, unless players Contracts and those that sign them have gone stark raving mad.

Frankly l would put a large number of the current squad on the transfer market.

I guess it is quite scary, that some on here are not going to renew or buy (those who have lapsed), yet they spend hours on this forum often berating all things Bradford City!

It is very very tough at the moment, but like you, even if we are relegated, I will continue to support my Club and renew.

The current group of players will largely be forgotten within 5 years, it is the long term future, which can be repaired and the club can get its dignity back.

My point is, agreeing to let them go won’t be a problem. We’re going to be pushing list to the exit door.

It’s finding other clubs stupid enough to match their wages that’ll be tough.

I reckon it’ll take at least a 2-3m to rebuild this farce - and that’s if it’s done well. I can’t see Rupp having that stomach, though I could be wrong. If he did, we’d have done more in January to sort out the team.

It's ok, I'll just treat it as more tittle tattle.

Yes, the long term future has to be the priority.

If I was in his position? Get the hell out before losing even more to the football money pit.

Your last paragraph is a good point. I accept that period has gone now, and whilst it was bloody ace ( in the main), I feel the yo-yo times may well be back. Been through it before, Tordoff, Simpson, Richmond and yep, Rhodes.

But feck it. Its not the end of the world. I'll be still getting giddy when we score that last minute winner against Newport on a cold wet winters night.......

Here are the players who will still be on contract at VP next season ..

    O'Donnell
    Riley
    O'Connor
    Scannell
    Reeves
    Doyle
    Robinson
    McCarten
    Mellor
    Patrick
    Akpan
    Wood
    Gibson
    Sykes-Kenworthy
    Staunton
    Wright

That's 16 in total with 14 ending in 2020 and two in 2021. If all of these were placed on the transfer list in the summer, I don't envisage many takers even assuming that they can be 'encouraged' to leave. And I seriously doubt that any of them would justify a transfer fee given the season they have had. If we want to get rid, we'll end up having to pay them off for next season's contract or pay something to a new club to subsidise their wages elsewhere. I doubt there will be a cheap option to place us in a position to assemble a good squad for next season.

Scary prospect!! I still think the right manager will be able to get more out of Akpan, Wood, and Mellor - and possibly another 4 or 5 of that list but there are also a number I would be happy never to see in a City shirt again

Agreed. As Bradford City fans we of course may disagree but I'm sure his own advisors, friends, family are offering advice. I'm certain some of it ( most of it?) will be get out, cut your losses or words to the effect. And what of the man himself. He must be considering his next step.

This season seems cut and dry. Next season ( if he gets that far), I would not be surprised if he goes, even cutting his losses.

Wishful thinking. 14 ending in 2010 that is.

Gross misconduct is a much less costly exit from a payment perspective. Needs good evidence tho!
