Except that’s not what the experts say. Don’t you think the club seeks expert advice?
One of my friends is a grass expert who used to work at St Ives Turf Institute and has been around the world assessing and judging sports pitches for FIFA and other sports bodies. He’s been very complimentary of the work that the club has done on the pitch in the last few years.

The fact is that, unless the club is prepared to spend absolute megabucks completely excavating the pitch down to a great depth, getting rid of the crap underneath, putting drainage through the retaining wall and installing state of the art under soil heating and drainage systems, it’s always going be vulnerable to exceptional weather such as the monsoon rainfall we’ve had in recent months. The pitch has been in superb condition for the last few seasons because of the good work that the ground staff have been doing. But unless we get a sugar daddy prepared to pump in multi millions in remedial work then there are going to be occasional seasons when the pitch is badly affected by exceptional weather.

Due to the cost of having them installed and the time it takes to make the investment back this would suggest that we are close to signing, or have already signed, a deal to stay at VP long term. No point in investing in them for two or three years useage

Last season the pitch did really well, this season everything that could go against him has. If you saw the video Mick Doyle did he explained that the pitch was starting to freeze against Liverpool and the players running on it killed the grass so short of spending millions on a hybrid pitch, lots more heat lamps and undersoil heating I'm not sure what else we could do. The Stockport game won't have helped at all. With so many home games coming in a short space of time there's very little anyone could do.

How is it a waste of time and money to generate our own electricity which in the long run will save us far more than the cost to have them installed? Plus any excess would generate us money by feeding it back into the grid

I'd argue that the commercial side is absolutely fine with Davide Longo running it. We can't make space for both on that side of the business so why lose DL to keep RS.

If it saves us money then surely it is good as it frees cash up for other things,

Unfortunately at the moment I think the state of the playing surface is out of the groundsmans capabilities of doing a lot to rectify it, although the weather has not been particularly cold the amount of rain its had on it has to have an effect, mother nature always has the final say.

Yet last season we were saying how well it had stood up to the winter and still had a very good playing surface.

I think that the Stockport game initially ruined the pitch Dave. The weather was atrocious before the game and the pitch was so wet it affected the roll of the ball quite a lot.
On top of that the freeze came which postponed the Doncaster game, as the video by Mick Doyle showed, his pitch fork wouldn't even go into the ground in places as it was frozen solid.
Even that wouldn't have thawed out in the 24 hours until kick-off.
Mick Doyle hasn't a cat in hells chance of doing anything with that pitch until the close season.

We don't win many games at home even when the pitch is in tiptop condition.

Totally agree. On Boxing Day I called Mick Doyle as given the torrential rain I thought game off. Revelation as the pitch played well, well grassed and no undulations. Then torrential rain up to the Stockport game which was the final nail. In hindsight the Stockport game should have been off and we wouldn’t be having all this debate. Indeed it was only on 90 minutes before kick off. Feel sorry for Mick, as I said in another post we have got some superb marks from match officials for the pitch up to Christmas and had the third best mark for L2 last season, just caught by the weather.

Nonsense. Until the persistent heavy rain over the past few months the pitch has been in excellent condition since the limited drainage work was done on it. I think that was 2018. I think you need to go to Specsavers if you couldn’t see how good it’s been for the past few seasons.

I believe @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler commented its been looked into but the structure of the stands roofs won't take the weight, I could be mistaken although apparently solar panels have become much lighter I've read.

Not sure we can call it a pitch right now Dave. Shocking surface to play on and tough on the players too.

Probably most things non football related, the club need someone above him and someone running the football side leaving him to the commercial side.

I think we played on it twice within 5 days when it was very wet, never recovered....
