I don't know whether we'll be 20 points adrift or not but this season's final points tally will be what determines where we are playing next season. And it's not looking good at the moment.

Let's say for argument's sake that in most seasons 70 points gets a team into the play-offs and 50 points gets a team relegated. Over a season, a team has to get an average of 1.52 pts/game for the play-offs in most seasons. When the transfer window opens we'll have 21 league games left and even performing at play-off standards for the rest of the season that's around 32 pts. Even if that is possible (and I have serious doubts about that!) and sticking with the 50 pts to avoid relegation, we therefore need to get to 18 pts before the window opens and I'm struggling to see where those extra 8 pts are coming from.

Whatever I might think about Hopkin's abilities and whatever I might believe about Rupp digging deep to bring in new players during the transfer window, it will be a miraculous improvement to go from the current <0.6 pts/game to the play-off level of >1.5 pts/game

I share your concern about our ability to turn things around even with the second coming of JR to help!

It might have been @SimonW@SimonW post in the trialist thread, Dennis with the FFP limits set on wages and getting players in.

Although we have scannell/doyle/akpan/o'connor here and not on cheap wages it beggars belief that City are anywhere near the limit with the squad full of poor looking players.

Why would Hopkin make a song and dance about out of contract players and trialists coming here a couple of weeks ago when the club had no chance of signing them.

    Is Hopkin stupid?

Nah, he may be daft but he 's not stupid.

No D, somebody not sure who was saying that we were probably near to how much we could spend, in the fair play ruling, sorry, don’t know the correct. We can only use 65% of our income on players wages?

OK. The comment you made about the SCMP constraint isn't entirely correct and it's a little more complex than simply saying we are limited to spending 65% on players wages etc. Whoever quoted this is a little out of date. And probably more importantly, without knowing more detail of the playing budget itself, it's impossible to know how close we really are to breaching the SCMP limit.

I prefer @Get Rid Of It@Get Rid Of It 's earlier comment earlier about Hopkin not being stupid! ;)

City’s wage spend on the non-exempt players is around £55k a week. SCMP allows 60% of turnover to be spent on wages. Previous quotes from club officials put the yearly turnover to be between £4.5mill and £7mill a year depending on things like cup runs and transfers out. 60% of those figures works out at between £51k a week and £80k a week. We obviously don’t know what prejections they are working on, younwould assume not thatnlower value based on the spending, if they are then they are already in trouble but it’s certainly not going to be the top end. If you go in the middle that’s £66k a week so about £11k spare but it would be surprising if a free agent of the right quality who hasn’t taken a deal elsewhere already isn’t going to accept much less than £5k a week as if they haven’t taken a deal already their decision isn’t just football based

I would not have wanted any of those players and expressed no positives when they were signed....dropping down/last payday/used to losing/underachiever etc They are exactly what we didn't need. No top six club would have touched them with a bargepole.

Should we just ignore this comment then? The players I referred to are NEVER fit, so makes no impact on this argument. Hopkin has alluded to the fact that Reeves’ injury is more mental than physical and that he should at least try to play and see how he reacts. Clearly (wages firmly in his back pocket) he doesn’t want to do this.

As such, I would be asking his and Jones’ agents if they would be willing to be released so they can seek their careers elsewhere. Nobody is convinced that they are injured all this time and that other factors are playing a role.

So if they aren't injured they are refusing to play then effectively going on strike?

So their not real supporters who think that the club is not getting run correctly and won't attend till a major u turn is done by the owners.
So by your reckoning a real city fan is somebody who goes on forums says players are shite the manager does not know what he's doing. I'd say everyone is the same no matter what they think about owners players and managers.

Its a silly suggestion. They will not be getting paid up early. As I stated before, all we'd save is the national insurance contributions the club pays on their wages. Why should the players othewise write off money they are owed?

I am not sure what wage structure currently operates at Bradford City, but there was a suggestion that the Owners wanted to implement a German model, whereby players got 50% of their potential earnings as ‘salary’ and a further 50% as bonuses. If that is the case, the players basic salary may well be quite low. If they could negotiate a deal whereby they got 50% of the remainder of their salary and their registration , then they could look for a new club and City could use the money to pay different players.

UK players are not going to sign up for those sort of terms, unless they are desperate. That leads to....who have we that other clubs would want to re-employ if they gave up 50% of their contract to here?

Who have we here? The style of play seems to have driven a lot of fans away? It is not only down to the owners, but the totality of the match day experience.

My concern is that we are stuck with a lot of these players and although on an individual basis they may be able to play to a reasonable level, in a totally different team, their performances as City players is not working.

So a player has never mutually agreed to end a contract early? It’s equally “silly” to rule it out as not a possibility. The fact is neither player are happy to be at City and, with Reeves in particular. Hopkin is getting frustrated by his reluctance to at least test his injury out in game time
