It was well publicised at the time that he cracked a bone in his back - not the sort of injury you come back quickly from.

 

Agreed. But, like many of our squad, he probably couldn't believe the shower of crap he had walked into. The lack of professionalism in pre-season and after, the obvious fan rebellion and staff unhappiness under Rahic etc etc, must have made it hard to be properly motivated when you are used to far better standards at a higher level.

He was The Dog Botherers' PoS about three seasons ago, so he's obviously capable of performing consistently through a season. Let's hope he responds positively to the recent improvements in professionalism, team bonding and morale. A fit and firing Scannell would be a major aid to avoiding relegation.

 

Never said he was better I said he had shown more. As scannell got any assists or goals this season, as he really ripped a defence apart, as he shown any real quality the answer is absolutely not. For someone who has played at an higher level all his career he should be ripping this league apart yet as done SFA only josh Wrights transfer is worse than scannell this season.

 

I hope you are right because he has been for me the biggest failure of the season.

 

Hard to argue with that. He has plenty to prove when he returns. I read somewhere that Huddersfield resorted to using him predominantly as an impact player from the bench in order to protect him but also get the best out of him in bursts. Could be the route forward for us?

He's 28 so he's still got plenty left in him. Hopefully we'll see him ready to go when he's fit.

 

He's the new Bobby Petta, talent in abundance but absolutely no desire at this level. Can see him and his very high wages heading off by the end of January. I'd even suggest he's got Jake Reeves syndrome

Now there`s a new spirit and work ethic he should be up for it when he returns. Players who haven`t performed are now showing determination to get off the basement. If he then shows he`s not up for it he will get left behind and should be moved on.

Exactly. There’s been plenty to criticise this season, but I’m struggling to understand why fans constantly go at players suffering with injury. Yeah, it’s a crap situation, but most of the time, it’s out of the control of the players. We just need to be suitably prepared for that eventuality. Currently we’re not, but I’m sure Hopkin has his plans.

 

You can understand with Scannell though, He's been a pro for over 10 years and as only just reached 300 games. there is 46 league games in the Championship + cup comps, he's fair missed a lot of games.

 

From Hopkins words in the T&A article, it sounds as though he is essentially planning the second half of the season without Scannell.

Damn shame for us and Scannell himself. What’s his contract with us?
