So, Paudie reckons we should keep the bulk of the current squad together and add 2 or 3 experienced players, to give us a chance of bouncing back first time. Apparently this is what happened when he was relegated with Limerick.

Sorry Paudie, I would love to see you back, and just a couple of the others, but you are wide of the mark there my son. I hope Bowyer strongly disagrees with you

 

I am going to put my tin hat on and get ready for the pelters but I think Bowyer May give Anderson a contract and I think he may turn out alright for us. I think he has got better with games and he has a bit of pace strong in the tackle and is the first genuine box to box player we have had for a while. Even if it is just for cover I think he would be worth having around

 

Sounds like that massive yard brush we were gonna use to sweep all last seasons crap away with now might need only a toothbrush...
we're just gonna end up with the biggest part of last seasons squad aren't we.....?

 

What makes you think that?

 

Absolutely. Early talent gets snapped up at an early age, but I don't have any faith in us to bring an 18-20 year old into pro football. Devine was the first for a long, long time that actually looked the part, but it's been about three seasons of nothing for him.

 

Both very valid points.

Perhaps we need to look beyond Drury or whoever is in charge of the youth teams and bring an experienced person who has a proven knack of developing talented younger players.

 

It's not just the youth team coaches who are responsible for their progression. The first team manager/coach must also have input eg bringing them into the first team squad during training sessions; taking them on the coach etc to away matches thus involving them in the build up etc; then having them in the squad on a match day even if it initially is just to make up the numbers. All the while said player is still very much part of the youth team set up but can see a pathway if he is successful.
