My mum would get us to down the chippy for chips and a separate bag of scraps when she made braised steak and onions with gravy, soaked the gravy up with the chips and scraps. Happy times.

Bits are what them there Dog Botherer type folk have, in fact there's a chippy (or used to be) on the way into 'Udders called "Wi Bits".

I’ve never heard them called bits, thought it was just scraps universal. As others have said need them in a separate bag, but I rarely get them.
