As I said in the thread Vaughan it was down to McCall. If he had told the club that there was no way he would play for again in the early summer then the outcome would have been different it’s either back the manager or overrule

I don't do Twitter but I'm sure I've seen screenshots on here where Ryan Sparks has answered fans questions. Can someone just ask him about the accounts and the vote. They are simple black and white questions. Oh and ask about the mysterious secret friendly too.

In a funny sort of way I don’t give a stuff if they voted for it, with a few admins under our belt and sitting pretty in the bottom league does it really matter.

We’re pretty skint in football club terms and 5000 ‘half’ season tickets at £150 won’t change that.

I've just looked at the 3 clubs' official website on whether anything was said about the salary cap vote.

Southend posted the EFL official statement in full with no amendments (in line with many other clubs)

Scunny posted nothing at all; not the EFL statement nor their own interpretation

City posted the EFL official statement in full but with the additional comment that the club voted against the salary cap.

Sparks is either lying through his teeth and doing it very publicly (which I really doubt) or the journalist has got his facts wrong. I suspect that's what has really happened.

Funnily enough, I've just looked at the three official websites as well. Yes, only City have confirmed that they voted against the cap.

Keep stating the obvious, but what I don't get is we wanted to use our full budget which is obviously well beyond the 1.5 million and yes city made this clear to everyone so why we didn't very quickly follow Bolton before the 1.5 million limit kicked in is beyond me......it just doesn't make any sense.

    Maybe I'm just going mad!

We need to leave room in the salary cap for any signings we may have to make in the mid season transfer opening to allow any signings needed to bolster the squad

It makes sense if you're actually trying to spend as little as possible whilst pretending otherwise in your public statements. Wait for the cap to come in and then you've got your perfect excuse. Now who could be thinking like that?

It makes every sense for anybody who wants to minimise the club's outgoings and use the introduction of a salary cap as an excuse further down the line!

I posted this on another thread at the start of July:

"Don't know if this has been covered anywhere but, assuming this salary cap comes in, could clubs pay higher loan fees rather than paying the wages of loanees? If a prem/champ club have a lad on, say, 5k per week, could we pay them a loan fee equivalent to his annual wage and they keep paying his wages? I'm thinking this might be a way around the salary cap and makes loans more attractive than permanent signings? I'm not saying I'd want us to do that but it might be a loophole?"

At the time Park shot me down (something about all Prem loans will be free, seeing as he's the oracle and all) but, having read through everything, it does seem that transfer fees, and potentially loan fees, are excluded. If loan fees do end up being excluded then surely it's an opportunity? Another angle is that loaning u21 players won't count towards the cap, regardless of how the loan deal is structured. Loads of details still to be confirmed by the EFL and evidence of this being rushed through with too little thought.

Park was simply wrong and he hadmisunderstood a statement made by one club on the issue.

You're quite correct in that transfer fees are outside the salary cap. Similarly the wages paid to under 21 players, whether our own or loanees are also outside the cap.

Wages paid to 21 and overs are clearly inside the cap and that includes any wages we might pay to loanees directly. If for example, we agree to pay 60% of a loanees wage to his parent club then that 60% hits against the salary cap. The issue of loan fees paid as a fee to the parent club is still being resolved with some saying it should be treated in the same way as a transfer fee, ie outside the cap, and others arguing for it to be part of the cap since it is just another of paying the loanee albeit indirectly. I expect that to be the final result otherwise it's just another loophole in the new arrangements.

I agree that despite the salary cap having been on the EFL's agenda for a couple of months, it has been rushed through without some of the detail having been thought through. The EFL have made hard work of this imo and the clubs for some reason agreed to the salary cap proposal without understanding some of the important detail on contract renewals & extensions, loan arrangements and what constitutes 'player costs'. If the clubs agree something and don't know what they are agreeing to, they deserve what they get!

Sorry if this has been mentioned before and it’s based on my thoughts rather than facts - now that the salary cap has come in are English clubs (1st and 2nd div) now at a disadvantage. As an example, prior to the cap being introduced we could compete in the transfer market (Wages) with most Scottish clubs apart from say top 6? Now with the introduction of the cap are we now seeing more players going north of the border. I’ve seen a few players recently signing for Scottish clubs, not an exodus but if the trend continues could this become an issue.
Just interested in people’s thoughts, as I said no facts to back it up but could English clubs cry foul (Bowman ruling or similar) as we are competing with one hand tied behind our backs.

Yes I noticed that today, it ironically reminded me of when Scottish clubs voted to boot Rangers out of the top league which meant they all lost out on TV income. I think it's an insane rule is this cap which will only hamper the quality furthermore.
