My daughter just came to me very upset.

She says her boyfriend isnt a very good boyfriend, he doesn't seem to recognise what being a good boyfriend should entail. Their relationship is going backwards and she doesn't hold much hope of it ending well.

She thinks she should end the relationship, but I've told her to knuckle down and stick it out until she comes to me with the name of a more suitable boyfriend first.

Paying the equivalent salary to a competent DoF, that's akin to a single player is a no-brainer to me, given that said individual would be responsible for shaping the entirety of the squad and playing resources at our disposal. It's more important to get that role right than any other role at the club.

As for credentials, I'd want to judge their record of performance at previous clubs on the basis of overall progression of first team results, value for money on players bought and value derived from sales, then the record of developing and promoting youth players. But as important, is their representation of a vision for how we move forward and their contact lists within the game. Doesn't need to be limited to dinosaurs like Fry or Warnock.

 

If anyone on the interview panel thinks that it's appropriate to start publicly criticising the decision to appoint GA then the club should probably steer well clear of them in the future.

 

I was talking to a fellow Bradford City fan who claimed we had Richie Wellens lined up as our new manager with Paul Jewell as DOF then Ryan found that email from Hughes, Neither he or I know what credibility it had but it certainly sounds like what could have gone on at Faulty Towers.

 

Maybe tell her it could always be worse? Next one might be a serial killer? It's happened to some.

 

Yep, I heard that too just after Hughes signed.

 

The gutting thing is agents, chairman of other clubs, business community, managers can spot someone wet behind the ears a mile off regardless of any chest out bravado. That's probably why we end up with managers who don't fit and log contracts for players who don't deserve it. Sellars tuned a job down and we paid for his FIFA badge course as a thank you. Crazy.

From what I was told we didn't interview Sparks for the CEO job, he's been trained up by Rhodes.

 

That in itself is scandalous.

 

Because the truth is now laid bare for all to see, and the vast majority of us aren't stupid and can think critically.

Enough is enough. We deserve better.

 

Nobody wanted GA, not even Sparks, but sadly he was all that was left after Sparks minced about for 4 weeks letting potential targets slip through the net.

I mentioned them solely on their experience, not because I like them, yes they are dino’s but I bet your right leg that you would have Barry Fry at the drop of a hat. He has, with his recruitment philosophy made £ million upon million for Posh, which frankly has bankrolled the club for 25+ years . The recruitment of a DoF with actual footballer and game knowledge is difficult to find, I’m sure you agree, even moreso at our level

Remember it’s the DoF job to actually scout, identify and engage signings and it’s the managers job to somehow make them fit in the side. If the former only has administrative qualifications , what is frankly the point? I could do that and do could you. If a QUALIFIED individual with the same level of expertise and experience of those forementioned could be found , it’s worth three players salaries . Such people are like hens teeth and mostly have well paid jobs in the top two divisions and probably recruited from overseas . Recruiting one with the same attributes……all I can say is , would be nigh on impossible, no matter how beneficial.

Those calling for one, need to understand what the required skills are. I get the impression not everyone does.

Mansfield’s Dof Simon Clough is Stephen Gents equivalent until he got a title change and just happens to be Nigel’s brother.

Wrexham don’t have a DoF , Parky wouldn’t work under one no doubt?

Stockport have a good one on paper than somehow came from Southampton and Man City and has excellent CV . His company I believe was responsible for the glossy 7 year plan based on continual unbroken success. What I cannot fathom is why he gave up a highly successful (?) Consultancy to become an employee for County. Nevertheless a great CV.
