Don't need bodies in the ground, I'd have just sent a few unmanned drones.

The teacher should have known that it would cause trouble. They are supposed to be an RE teacher so can not claim ignorance of the rules of the religions.

as for the head teacher taking action didn’t they only suspend the teacher yesterday after the protests started. The incident and complaints were 4 days ago. So would the head have done anything if the ‘mob’ hadn’t have turned up? Probably not.

I know some people are say why get offended over a picture, I'm just wondering how many people on here would object if someone posted a picture of the fire on this website.

Couple of things for me on this one.

Everyone knows that showing a picture of Muhammad is offensive. Whether you agree with that outlook or not I don't understand why any school teacher would even consider doing it. I don't understand the upside of that decision.

Happy for the people to protest outside the school peacefully for whatever aims they see fit. Whether those aims are achieved is up to other people. The protests can't turn into any type of aggression though.

Perhaps most importantly I think the time for RE being taught in school is coming to an end. Didn't really understand why I was being taught it back in the day when I was there and certainly don't anymore. Religion should be taught in religious settings not a compulsory lesson in schools.

Just looking at those images from today of all those upstanding pillars of the community who have never made a mistake in their life.

Stones and glass houses springs to mind.

Onto the actual topic itself-the irony is the teacher was trying to educate the children what intolerance and freedom of expression meant. Looks like he/she gave their best ever, and sadly possibly their last, lesson.

In Kirklees borough, where Batley Grammar School is located, the syllabus says: pupils should also understand "key areligious values including democracy, human rights, rule of law, secularism, freedom of expression and tolerance" - this is taught in Key Stage 3.

It would completely depend on the context.

If it was posted mocking the victims in a spiteful and vindictive way then that is not good. That would be offensive because that is what it is trying to be.

If ,as it is often used in Fire service training, it was presented as an opportunity to learn and reflect then that's not offensive.

    Well not to me anyway.

From what I have read the context of this cartoon was to be educational and explore a range of subject matters including freedom of expression and tolerance.

Seems this was a rogue, badly thought out, event by the RE teacher as why has this not been raised at other schools as an issue?

It probably hasn't been rasied at other schools as no other RE teacher has done it. Most teachers design their own lessons around the syllabus, very few buy in lessons.

Regardless of the issues showing pictures that were highly inflammatory and had already caused protests and deaths was irresponsible by a supposed responsible teacher,

    What a ridiculous comparison.

Don't bother replying because I'm not debating the point but it's safe to say that comparing people's death to a few cartoons you didn't want to be drawn shouldn't ever be brought up in the same conversation.

I was thinking more of would it be safe for the teacher to be seen, I believe the teacher is already under police protection, no doubt it was a silly thing to do, I'm with the no religious teaching at school brigade in this day and age.
Always going to upset some people in this multicultural society.

You got to wonder the mental state of these people making death threats.

Ooo you offended me because a book said I have to be offended so I am going to be offended even though I might not actually be offended at all.

    Sheeple.

Some of the things that those with religious beliefs take such mortal offence to, whilst tolerating substantially greater evils within their own culture and practices, show that religion has very little place in modern society, to my mind.

We should take a lead from France which forbids religious Schools etc and is a secular country, Religion should be taught in private places and at home and not in Schools, Demonstrations and protests outside schools should also be banned to allow students and teachers access to education without hindrance
