I see the latest news on this Batley School is that the mob outside has now forced the entire school to shut down.

This all grew from a teacher showing a picture of the prophet in an RE class and after complaints he was suspended. Since then this teacher has now been put into police protection for his own safety and the mob has continued to protect outside the school leading to it's closure today.

What do the mob want? The teacher has been suspended and the incident is being investigated. Whether people like it or not we live in a country where people are innocent until proven guilty and everyone is entitled to a fair trial.

There are no Blasphemy law in England, but maybe the time has passed for religion to be taught in schools. No one knows in what context these pictures were shown or why, it's just straight to it's an outrage and the mob has followed.

I can't believe this has rolled on to a second day and if my children were at that school I would be extremely pissed off with the school being closed even after action (which I don't agree with) had been taken against the teacher.

Showing a picture of the prophet is forbidden. That might be the case of some but tbh if I wanted a picture of him on my wall it is not against the law to do so. I wouldn't anyway, but the law doesn't state I can't if I want to.

It all seems bizarre to me, probably because I believe anyone can believe in what they want but I draw the line at obeying rules from religions. Some religions don't allow homosexuality but I am a free mind and would never take issue with someone's sexuality.

I suppose removing religion from school might prevent this happening in future, but then that is giving into the mob.

I thought I had seen it already. I had a second take before posting looking for it. I wanted to comment because it has now led to a complete closure of the school.

There was a journalist on the radio earlier today who has been briefed off the record about the nature of the 'incident' in the classroom. According to her, the teacher had used a couple of the Charlie Hebdo cartoons in an RE lesson to illustrate how some non-Muslims viewed the Prophet. And then the shit hit the fan!

I believe that the school was right to suspend the teacher and arrange for him to be placed under some kind of protection. We all know too well what happened at the Charlie Hebdo premises. Maybe that has also influenced why the school has closed temporarily?

I think that if you saw pictures of the people at the event it's clear that the majority just wanted a day out and a row with the police.

That was because that thread was clearly started to cause an argument and was bordering on racist. This thread (at the moment) is a statement of fact and opinion put across in a sensible manner.

A news report this morning on ITV said that the protesters weren't even parents of kids at the school.

I don't suppose that matters though does it? Aren't they protesting at the content of the lesson and not that a child was taught it?

I still don't believe they've a right to gather outside the school though and I'm unsure why the police haven't moved them on after the first and simply allowed the school to close.

I'll tell you what they want, they won't go away until he is sacked from teaching or at least removed from that particular school.

If the police turn up in numbers there will be many many more protesters very soon after.

One of the protesters saying an apology from the school/ head is not good enough they want the teacher to make a public apology.

To be fair he should apologise as I have no doubt he knew what he was doing and if not then not fit to teach anyway,

Does anyone on here remember the Headmaster of the school in Manningham being hounded out of his school years ago. I had to walk through the protests to get into work. Hunnyford was his name. The protesters didn't give up until they got what they wanted. And all he said was kids in school should be able to speak English.

An apology won't be enough for them.

If they were all women protesting the police would be straight in there dispersing them.

They are breaking the law by gathering there and needed moving on instead of simply closing the school. Regardless of more trouble makers turning up, isn't that what the police are there for?

I half expected the school to have been raised to the ground last night..

Can you believe grown men and women being offended by a cartoon

There is no right in this country not to be offended

If religion must be taught then it should be in the parents time at home

    Could say much more but...

The Met were planning on sending up a squad of their finest woman beaters, but had second thoughts when they found out that it might have gotten a bit tasty.

Aye, it reminds me of the time cartoon poo emojis had to be removed because a few 'grown ups' got upset.
