Can you believe grown men and women being offended by a cartoon

There is no right in this country not to be offended

If religion must be taught then it should be in the parents time at home

The Met were planning on sending up a squad of their finest woman beaters, but had second thoughts when they found out that it might have gotten a bit tasty.

 

Regardless of the issues showing pictures that were highly inflammatory and had already caused protests and deaths was irresponsible by a supposed responsible teacher,

 

I was thinking more of would it be safe for the teacher to be seen, I believe the teacher is already under police protection, no doubt it was a silly thing to do, I'm with the no religious teaching at school brigade in this day and age.
Always going to upset some people in this multicultural society.

 

You got to wonder the mental state of these people making death threats.

It's a fair point but there's no need to limit this to religion. It could and should come under a larger subject piece of "societal and cultural studies" which could encompass elements of economics, politics, religion, cultures, history, taxation, etc, etc. There is no reason for religion to be held out on it's own to the exclusion of all these other (more?) important aspects of how our world has been shaped.

 

Sounds like some nonsense right wing conspiracy theory to me.

 

Just opening the debate slightly , what if this protest had been about an Homosexual teaching Muslm pupils ?. They're illegal protests , breaking all current rules on social gatherings . Death threats made against a teacher , yet some are defending the right to protest . We seem to becoming a doctrinated society , small minority pressure groups overiding anyone elses thoughts if they dare disagree with there narrow views . When all else fails use the race card , stiffle any debate by using the race card .

They have every right to protest, although not to dish out death threats.

Everyone else has the right to decide whether they agree or not

 

Even if that protest constitutes an illegal gathering?

 

My company (35 years ) offered me a derisory sum to take early retirement .
It was less than our CEO earns a month . I was rushed into hospital with breathing problems , then caught a secondary infection in the ICU ward ( not Covid thank god ) . I've given up arguing ( nearly ) because they resort to default setting IE :- Right wing racist / little inglander .

 

Yep, I was taking the piss. Much like a good 3/4s of the "protesters" that were at the school. They were there for a day out and to have a go at the police because they had nothing better to do.

And once they've finished being all offended in the name of their religion I've no doubt that a good number jumped in their cars with their mates and went "cruising" while smoking illegal drugs.

 

An apology won't be enough for them.

Couple of things for me on this one.

Everyone knows that showing a picture of Muhammad is offensive. Whether you agree with that outlook or not I don't understand why any school teacher would even consider doing it. I don't understand the upside of that decision.

Happy for the people to protest outside the school peacefully for whatever aims they see fit. Whether those aims are achieved is up to other people. The protests can't turn into any type of aggression though.

Perhaps most importantly I think the time for RE being taught in school is coming to an end. Didn't really understand why I was being taught it back in the day when I was there and certainly don't anymore. Religion should be taught in religious settings not a compulsory lesson in schools.
