Smallwood deserves some credit too today. Still looks slow and a bit cumbersome at times but two excellent free kicks for the goal and won plenty of ball in the middle.

He's quick to receive criticism on here so I think we should replicate that when he deserves praise.

 

Nice one, on the contrary, I thought Gilly had his quietest game for weeks.

 

I think Smallwoods form improved when Clayton arrived and has continued after his injury

 

Interesting that. Shows Northampton have been very up and down and Carlisle and Stevenage have been average for some time.

 

Strange game today. Not our best performance but never really in doubt when the second went in. Brilliant atmosphere though and unreserved seating which was a bonus.

 

Carlisle have the third best scorer in the division but haven’t scored in 6 of their last 7 games.

Would much rather been at Rochdale though and would definately been a bit wealthier this evening but it was our lass's birthday treat and you have to keep them happy occasionally.

Blimey, I thought he was terrific today. Carried the ball forward well several times, put in the hard yards and was still chasing them down in the last five minutes. Incredible engine on him.

 

I find it absolutely ridiculous that there are some people criticising him tonight for wanting to score more goals. If he was being greedy but had no end product then fair enough, criticise away, but when he's the top scorer in the league???
Also, he's got 6 assists so maybe not as greedy as some are making him out to be.

 

I don't read too much into it as there is always a criticism some fans find to throw out there despite any result or performance, a lot it is possibly justified but any towards our top scorer being too greedy or getting mad at other players for not playing him in I'd totally disagree with, I want our top striker hungry for the ball in goal scoring situations and most of the best strikers at any level tend to be greedy.

 

Not a fan of praising pyros, but that's my only gripe

I'm a bit of a pervert when it comes to other club's forums (lol), and you can see so much anxiety from 'Dale fans towards playing football and playing out from the back.

I get why their anxiety would be particularly high - I mean, they're relegated, pretty much - but playing football shows they're on the right track IMO.

We've seen the same from some City fans this season, too.

Hopefully a promotion and more time under Hughes trains that out of our fan base, and we come to expect an actual professional, modern footballing style going forwards.

As epic as the Parky era was, we're not going to get that again. It was a one-off. And if we're not going to be that successful, I don't want us to go back to dark age football.

But, right now, that's exactly what Rochdale fans want...
